  1. That's weird. I'm pressing K and I've tried Ctrl-K and nothing is happening. I tried these in 2.0 and 1.5.4 and nothing is happening. It does work without the Vive on. I take it that it is just supposed to float in front of your face like the other menus?
  2. Hmm. Interesting. Is that on 1.5 or 2.0?
  3. I haven't tried it with 2.0 but I'll give it a look. I couldn't get the Huey to import into 2.0 although I have to admit that I didn't try very hard.
  4. Does anyone know how you can navigate using a Vive? I'm flying the UH-1 and the F10 map comes up but is blank apart from the airports. The knee board also doesn't seem to work. I'm loving the Huey with Vive but flying by VFR only. Cheers! CptT
  5. I would like audible commands for door gunner ROE and the like. With the Vive there are no visible text messages for door gunner and weapon status. It would make it easier if the pilot called them out as they changed.
  6. I had the same feeling when I first played the P-51. The cockpit just seems so cramped compared to playing with a monitor. In relation to the smoothness mostly it's very good. The only time I've really had an issue is with the Ka-50. I found that there was some lag in the headset when flying (not there on the ground) giving a sort of double-take effect which was very dizzying. The odd thing is that War Thunder on the Vive operates on the Oculus Rift principle - two big screens side by side on the monitor instead of it all being cramped down into a small screen in the middle. I don't know if this makes any difference in real terms but it does run very smoothly. It also has the advantage that, when changing settings, you are surrounded by them instead of having them move around with the headset. It would be good if DCS changed the menu system so that controls can be set up in-game - at the moment the fresnel lenses make that impossible, or at least, incredibly difficult.
  7. Thanks. I have noticed that there is occasional lag in the Black Shark when I'm turning my head. It does a sort of double-take but it doesn't cause the load env to appear. What's the most effective way of keeping my frame rates up? Is there a particular setting that will make a very large difference without compromising graphics quality too much?
  8. Thanks. I had a horrible feeling that it would be something like that.
  9. Hi I posted a similar topic to this in the P-51 section and have been advised to post it here instead. When I'm playing, the Vive backdrop occasionally pops through for a second or so. It's pretty annoying but not a game-breaker. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening? Cheers! CptT
  10. Hi I wasn't aware that there was a VR thread. I'll ask there. So, Codefox, I guess from that, what you are saying is that there's not much can be done about it? Cheers! CptT
  11. Hi I have been playing DCS P-51 and Black Shark using the Vive. I find that every now and then, at random, the Vive background will pop through. It only lasts for about a second or two but it is very distracting, particularly on landing. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have a solution to it? Thanks! CptT
  12. Hi All I have just bought the Vive and it is excellent. It's not perfect - the screen door effect is far more noticeable than I was expecting it to be but the feeling of immersion is utterly awesome! I haven't even played a mission yet, I'm just enjoying pootling around in the P-51 and enjoying the view. One oddity that I am experiencing is that every now and then, for about a second, the Vive placeholder will pop through into the view. Does anyone know what causes this or what I can do to prevent it? There doesn't seem to be any particular thing that causes it - it does, perhaps happen more when I'm entering a banking turn but this may just be a coincidence. Cheers! CptT
  13. I didn't even realise that there was an updated one. I've tried the one listed above and it loads fine, I'm sure it works OK too. I would be kicking myself for not finding that before all the work I put in on my version but I learned stuff along the way so it's all good :) Cheers for the link. I always prefer playing missions made by other people.
  14. At the risk of engaging in egg sucking 101 here, you have selected Ka-50 from the controls drop-down list right? I only ask as it is very odd that there is no collective control. Could you post a screen-shot?
  15. OK. Had a look at that, screamed, ran away. I think I'll put up with the quiet in-cockpit sound. Thanks anyway!
  16. Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about the in-game throttle. Just set the throttle on your stick as the collective. I have never done any throttle adjustments (in-game) and I've played through the whole first campaign.
  17. Hi I've uploaded this now. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/496828/ I can't speak for its quality - it's my first full mission. The voice seems very quiet. I tried recording it louder but it didn't seem to make a difference. Not sure what's going on there. Anyway. Enjoy!
  18. I see what you're saying about pilots wearing all kinds of sound muffling gear but that would have an effect even when the door was open. I did consider that fiddling with the sliders but that would be a lot of hassle and also I'd have to fiddle with them again when I played any of the other DCS titles, most of which have perfectly good sound levels in and out of cockpit. As I say above, I was kind of hoping that there would be a parameter somewhere in the config file that I could tweak. There must be something there somewhere or the Huey would be quieter when the doors were closed like the Ka-50 but, of course, it's not necessarily tweakable.
  19. I converted all the speech files to wav last night and they work. There are 6 files of about 7 seconds each so it's not an enormous amount. I'm just considering whether to bother / whether it's necessary to try and do radio effects on it. I'm using audacity and not really sure where to start.
  20. So mp3 won't work? I'll try converting my mp3s to wav files and see if that's any better.
  21. Cool. I'll stick it up once I've done the talky stuff. Talking of the talky stuff, I have recorded it in .mp3, which appears to be a valid format but it won't play. I have set the trigger to Sound to Coalition and loaded the relevant .mp3 but when I hit the Play button it doesn't play and when I tried it in game, on start-up, it also didn't play though the accompanying text popped up. Any thoughts? Cheers!
  22. I have downloaded this one and tried it and it doesn't work with BS2. On loading it just hangs. In fairness, I have very nearly finished my own version. It was actually easier than I expected. The mission isn't exactly the same - when I opened the original in the editor the tanks were completely missing so I had to try to work out where they were supposed to be. I'm not at all sure that I've put them in the right place, but they can't be too far off. Once I've added some voice to it it'll be pretty much finished. I'll post it here if anyone is interested.
  23. Hi I find that the engine noise in the cockpit of the Ka-50 is extremely quiet once the door is closed. I find it hard to believe that the pilot is that well insulated from the external noise of rotors, engine, gearbox, etc. Is there any way to make the engine noise louder in the cockpit? I know that there are the usual volume sliders but my cockpit sound is as up as far as it will go and, while I know that I could nudge all the others down a bit to make the cockpit noise super high, this would affect all the aircraft in the game and the Huey seems just about right. Is there a way of editing the config file etc. to up just the engine noise? Cheers!
  24. I did see the training missions listed Cichlidfan but I have a particular fondness for that one.
  25. That would be the fella! I tried just opening it and trying to save it but no joy. I have started trying to replicate it in the Mission Editor, with a certain amount of success. My version is not as polished but it's doing the job of letting me up and about and blow some stuff up to remind me how to do it.
