Increasing sensitivity of joystick pot
CptTangerine replied to CptTangerine's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Oh, that is exactly what I am doing - especially with the Gazelle. That's pretty sensitive. -
Increasing sensitivity of joystick pot
CptTangerine replied to CptTangerine's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I understand that, but what I think was happening before was that I was basically amplifying the noise twice, whereas now, I'm effectively amplifying the noise at source and then damping it back down a bit in-game. Although there is still some noise (which is why I have an X52 for my other stick which works on Hall Effect instead), it is a lot better than it was. I can't explain it better than that, but it is, broadly-speaking tolerable until I can work out a decent mechanical solution that will, hopefully, minimise the noise physically. -
Increasing sensitivity of joystick pot
CptTangerine replied to CptTangerine's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi Thanks for that. I am going to persist with a mechanical solution for the moment. I have just tried recalibrating the stick with a smaller circle and this seems to work quite well. Increasing the sensitivity in calibration and decreasing the sensitivity in-game seems to dampen a lot of the noise in the pot. Cheers! CptT -
Increasing sensitivity of joystick pot
CptTangerine replied to CptTangerine's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So, it would be the degree of travel rather than the resistance that I would need to look for? Thanks. CptT -
Hi I have converted an X-45 stick into a helicopter flight system and one of the things that I have done is to extend the joystick handle shaft by about 2'. The practical upshot of this is that I am not moving the handle in much smaller circles than would normally be the case and I have had to increase the sensitivity in-game to take this into account. I would like to alter the stick so that it is more sensitive mechanically / electronically so that I don't have to up the sensitivity in-game. The problem is that using the in-game calibration to increase the sensitivity also amplifies the noise in the pot. I have been working on using gears to mechanically amplify the movement of the stick but it occurred to me that there might be a better way, swapping out the pots. The pot that is in the stick is a B50K-65 and I am assuming, from Googling around, that the 50K is the resistance in the pot. So, the question I have is, could I increase the sensitivity of the stick by putting in a different pot with a different resistance, and would this be a good way of doing things? Thanks! CptT

Hi I have just finished converting my old X-45 HOTAS into a helicopter flight stick. I did the cyclic a while back but the throttle was bugging me so I felt it was time to do the collective as well. I wanted the collective to have a twist-grip throttle for when I'm starting up and shutting down the Huey and I wanted at least one button on there for starting the engine. In the end I abandoned the aux and mode buttons as I never used them. I still have the second rotary knob, mouse emulator, and four-way hat switch board in a box in case I can be bothered to wire them up as well, but at the moment I don't feel that I need them. Also, the interior of the pipe was getting pretty crowded with wires and connectors. CptT

Yep. That's exactly what happens. I'm just hoping that the problem is something to do with the updater and that it will fix itself in the next update. There's no reason for the problem to have started, with luck it will just go away.
-
Well, theoretically. I have never done it, so I don't know what it looks like, but there is nothing to show that it is working that way.

There were about 50 which is the same amount as for the beginning part that rocketed down. It just gets to a certain amount of download and slows to a crawl - I tried it again yesterday and, at some points, it was as slow as 0.3Kbp/s. I tried hitting cancel and it appears to crash - it tells me that it's disconnecting from the swarm but nothing else happens, it just sits there with the progress bar full and that message for, as far as I can see, ever. There was no indication that it had switched successfully to an HTTP download. It's odd.

Hi I am trying update my Beta version and the download starts off at the sorts of speeds that I would expect (about 3MB/s) for the first set of files and then, every time, suddenly drops to about 3 - 5Kbp/s. This is the first time that I have had this problem. As far as I can tell, nothing has changed. Any thoughts / ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated. I have tried downloading the update several times over several days so it doesn't seem to just be an internet connection glitch. Everything else seems to be coming downstream as normal. Cheers! CptT

Hi I have recently come back to the Huey. I was playing the Stray Eagle mission and found that when I was on the ground, or close to it, I only had ground-clutter textures in my right eye. My left eye was just blurry. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix? I don't seem to have had this problem with any other modules. Cheers! CptT

2.5.1 for GTX 970, et al Owners
CptTangerine replied to Cavemanhead's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have just upgraded from a 970 to a 1080. So far I haven't noticed any differences (I'm a bit upset about that). I got more differences from putting the install on a SSD. -
Hi Thanks. That's exactly what it was. I'm not even sure why they bother having two separate buttons for that. I had actually looked to see if there was a PTT button, but didn't see it the first time. It's different looking for something if you don't know it exists rather than looking for something when you're pretty sure that it does. Cheers!

Hi I have started playing on the Spit in 2.5.1 and I have found that the comms menu works on the ground but not in the air. I am using realistic comms. Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a solution? Thanks. CptT

GTX1080 crackling through Vive
CptTangerine replied to CptTangerine's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I seem to have solved it. I disabled the Vive in the Playback Devices and then re-enabled it. No crackling since then. -
Hi I just upgraded to an Asus GTX1080 card to power my Vive as mt GTX970Ti seemed to be struggling in DCS. I have installed the new card and it runs games fine but I have noticed that there is a crackly sound through the audio when I'm playing on the Vive. I was on the Vive this morning, before I put the new card in and it was fine. The audio issues seem to get worse when the card is having to work harder. I was playing Subnautica and the crackling wasn't too bad until I moved my head. I have tried playing non-VR games and there are no sound issues. I am assuming that the problem is something to do with the audio through HDMI. Has anyone come across this issue or any idea how to fix it? Cheers! CptT

Thanks. I am downloading the beta from the downloads section. It says that is the 2.5 Beta but it actually appears to be the 2.5.1 version. This will work out well if there is a problem with it - at least then I can revert to the 2.5 version that is working.

My version of DCS is not updating to 2.5.1 Open Beta. I have tried running the updater through the command line and that does not work. Please would you tell me how to get my 2.5.0 install to update? Thanks! CptT

It's odd. I have an i5 4950 with 16GB RAM and a GTX970 card and it works OK in VR. It can be a little stuttery with the Vive but I have found that if I load the scenario without VR and then start up VR and run it, it runs acceptably. I have PD set to 1.5 but I may lower it to see if I can increase performance without impacting on the gauge-readability too much.

Hi This might seem to be a bit of a counter-intuitive request, but I was wondering if anyone would know how to hook a TPCast into the mains, tethering it? The whole point of a TPCast with the Vive is to allow you to wander around without a big cable to trip over following you around. I love my TPCast when I'm playing Fallout 4 etc. but it's a bit pointless when I'm playing DCS. I'm sitting in a chair, who cares if there is a cable? The downside to TPCast is that it uses a battery so when the battery runs out, it's game over. Unfortunately, switching the Vive between wired and wireless is quite an involved process. I would like to know if anyone has a solution that would allow me to replace the battery pack with something that could be plugged into the mains so that all of the time I'm playing DCS I don't have to worry about draining the battery. Cheers! CptT

You will need the two base stations. They are essential. If you are only interested in the Vive for DCS then you will not need the controllers - standard HOTAS works perfectly in the game with the Vive.

Oh, well, I shall wait until there are. There are a few changes I would like to make to my voice pack - making some of the lines a little more era-appropriate, but at the moment it's not worth the fiddling to get the new lines sounding like the old ones for just a few here and there. Once there is something substantial to get my teeth into I'll do it en masse.
-
Good to hear. I still haven't bought the WWII pack (doesn't seem worth the money yet). Are there voices for all of the airfields used in the pack or is that still awaiting update? If there are voiced place names I will add them to the pack if someone would post what they are.

Unable to land the Spitfire; any tips?
CptTangerine replied to Jamesp1's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I agree with the above. I can't land the way the manual wants me to. What I would add is, don't be afraid to add a little power just before you touch down if you need to to stabilise your descent. The runway is very long and there's plenty of time to correct. If you are coming in too fast, it's worth taking care of that rather than just flaring and hoping for the best. The main thing that has screwed up my landings is hitting hard and bouncing hard, it's very difficult to recover from that as it throws the Spit all over the place. Just be careful when adding power: the torque will have quite an effect at those low speeds so be ready to correct with the ailerons. -
Unable to land the Spitfire; any tips?
CptTangerine replied to Jamesp1's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I was actually wondering if they had made the landing easier as I have just come back to the Spit after a while playing other things and I haven't scraped the wingtop once, even after a couple of bouncy landings. I have realised that I find landings a lot easier if I come in at a pretty steep angle and then level off just before touching down. Possibly this is because it helps my assessment of where the runway is and gets me properly lined up. Trying to come in on a shallow approach always leaves me 50/50 as to whether the runway is going to be where I think it is.
