  1. I got pretty frustrated that things still weren't working so I went and had a search around for more detailed radio instructions. I now know a lot of what I was doing wrong with the radios - I didn't really get the whole AM, FM, and UHF idea. I've now found out how to tune each radio properly and I can at least now speak to my wingman on the correct frequency. I haven't had a chance to try the JTAC since (I ran out of time last night). I have been trying to contact the ATC on this mission though and still without success. I have checked the F10 map (nothing in briefing or mission planner about this) and that shows Mozdok as having a frequency of 137.00Mhz. I am assuming from my reading that this is therefore an AM channel and I have set my AM radio accordingly. I sit on the ramp with engines running (I can't see the radio until the engines are on and I can push the throttle levers forward a bit), I switch to AM radio on the mic switch, and ask ATC for startup. Nothing. So ... a) Am I doing something wrong? b) Is the tower frequency for Mozdok wrong? c) Is there any way of find out what the frequency is for Mozdok if not through the F10 map? From searching I have found other people have said they are talking to ATC, but obviously glitches can be a mission by mission issue. Any help much appreciated!
  2. Cheers! They've obviously made that more strict in beta 3. I'll give it a go.
  3. I have just been playing Smerch Hunt on Beta 3 - fantastic by the way - but the one niggle I have is that I can't use the radio. I have assigned my \ key to the radio (re-assigned might be the better word as the original assignation didn't work at all) and pressing it brings up no menu. I know I have a wingman: I can see him and after I was shot down he did a sterling job of avenging my death ... would have been nice if I could have asked him to do it ahead of time though. Is anyone else having this problem and if they are, have you found a solution? Cheers!
  4. Playing without it makes me feel like I've got a paper bag over my head.
  5. For me, I found that properly understanding the SOP and SPI and how to switch SPI between different modes was the key. I have resorted to sitting down and writing out a crib sheet with DMS, TMS, and China Hat functions on it to help me when I'm flying. I still can't get the poxy mavericks to lock much over 2nm, but as everyone seems to be having that problem I can cope. I'm not looking forwards to trying to take a SAM site out from 2nm though, not if Black Shark is anything to go by!
  6. I had a slightly strange problem which may be related to this - when I was taking off on the Shooting Gallery mission, I merely touched the stick in a rearwards direction then there was a loud crunch noise and the plane leapt off the runway pretty much vertically to about 200'. I then noticed that only the rear-wheel lights were on in the gear display. I ignored it and flew the mission anyway but the landing wasn't pretty ... ... though in fairness none of my landings have been that pretty yet :) I have not had this in Smerch Hunt or any of the other missions though I have had minor variations on the crunch in Shooting Gallery.
  7. Hmm. Well, Mower, if there're any around then so much the better ... oh, hang on ... low self esteem ... erm, late night tearful heart-to-heart discussions ... Mmm. No. No, think I'll pass on that one ;) Nomdeplume, here is the dxdiag file and graphics settings, cheers for the help: Graphics: Textures: High Scenes: High Civ Traffic: Medium Water: High Visib Range: Medium Heat Blur: On Shadows: Medium Resolution: 1280x1024 Aspect Ratio: 5:4 Monitor: 1 Screen Res Of Cockpit Displays: 256 MSAA: 8x Full Screen: Enabled HDR: Enabled TSSAA: Enabled Clutter: 0 TrackIR 3: Enabled 6DoF Stick: Saitek X-45 Pedals: CH Pro DxDiag 22-10-10.txt
  8. Thanks. The messages vary as to how long it takes them to blank out. Sometimes it won't happen at all and sometimes they're like right from the outset. The messages are literally white oblongs where the text should be, it's not just that they have timed out. Pausing makes no difference - the text in the pause box is blanked out as well. Once it's blanked out it stays blanked out.
  9. Further to this, is there any way of getting hold of the text from the training missions without actually playing them? That way I could just copy it down and read it, filling in the blanks.
  10. I have a problem where after a random amount of time in a training mission the writing giving the instructions will blank out and just be replaced by white bars where the text should be. When I go to exit the mission the text in the box is also blanked out. I have card drivers up to date. I am using NVidia 9600GT 512MB with XP SP3
  11. The best thing to do here is just to re-map the comms key. I had this problem and went into the key mapping screen and I have mapped the key to the \ key. In the mapping screen this then shows as "OEM" something, not \. Obviously some glitch in translation.
  12. Personally, I have the enable/disable mapped to a joystick button (the little thumb button by the mouse stick on my X45 throttle) and centre to the hat switch on the throttle. I then use the throttle mouse stick to slew the Shkval. This allows me to get to the firing point, come to a hover, switch of my TrackIR and use the other hat switch to look between the cockpit, Shkval, and ABRIS while locking up and firing on targets. I find that this allows me to zoom right in on the Shkval without having to keep my head cramp-inducingly still. Works very well for me.
