  1. He always does this, don't take it personally. Let's not get offtopic, I trully want to know more about the mids update rate irl.

    IFF

Manual says Right now, the Hornet behaves nothing like these statements (fortunately!!!). Auto interrogation makes that the whole current beam is interrogated each 10 seconds. And the L&S interrogation makes that only the L&S is interrogated each 10 seconds. Will it behave like the manual says someday or it's just that the manual is wrong?
  3. And IRL is it done by keeping it pressed or just doing the next action quickly after releasing it?
  4. Sorry to ask but I have been away for a long time. Did this always work like this? I'm under the impression that I only had to press the SCS button to interrogate before.
  5. Wow, I didn't know that. I was sure that ED had nailed it with the AG radar after years of work. Oh Hornet, my baby Hornet, what have they done to you?
  6. Is this serious? CCIP is still bugged? Guys, I was away from home and therefore DCS for one year and I came back a couple of weeks ago. The state of the Hornet is by no means better than a year ago. I was hoping that one year of hard work would probably get things fixed or at least improved. Is Kate giving updates like she used to do? What happened this year?
  7. That is indeed cool! Agree 100%. The outcome is the outcome, and it really doesn't matter what is behind it. We don't need to know what chemical is inside a flare, all we need is to drop it and have a chance to attract a heat seeking missile (of course there can be cool logics in the code). That's why I am so curious to know what the MIDS update rate is in reality. Also why the A10c has real time datalink as well as the JF17. Is any of those incorrect and the F18 correct? If so, why? Can I or we expect it to change someday? Thanks guys.

    DL Channel

They don't, that's why I'm asking. Seems to have no effect in the simulation, but perhaps I was missing something I didn't know. Thanks.

    DL Channel

Does the DL channel selection changes anything in DCS? I know the voice ones do, but the DL is a mistery to me. THanks.
  10. I never said such thing, that's why I opened this thread so I can understand more. What I'd like to know as I said is if this is a legal limitation of the simulation ED was allowed to make, a bug that someday will be fixed, or if it is just what it is IRL.
  11. One of the most annoying things about the Hornet IMHO is its datalink update rate. A10C datalink (SADL) has less than 1 second update rate for PPLIs and any other symbology. It's virtually real time updated. Why is that the Hornet has a datalink with 12 seconds update rate? Why is the Hornet 1200% worse than other aircrafts in this regard? Is ED prohibited from simulating the real behavior (I don't know what the real behavior is, I'm just asking)? Why every time I look at a symbol in the HMD or SA page the actual object isn't there anymore, confusing the pilot and giving him wrong and dangerous information? If the object has constant movement then the extrapolation (both relative and absolute) works good and the symbol will follow, but if the object moves then the symbol gets 12 seconds of wrong position. Yeah I know they are two different systems and bla bla, but the NATO network is the same. I'm dying to know if this is a legal limitation of the simulation ED was allowed to make, a bug that someday will be fixed, or if it is just what the Navy has to deal with IRL (poor pilots). Any information about this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  12. Yeah, right. Although I am not aware of how deviated they are now versus the actual values. I think I read something above about them having quite a big difference.
  13. Yeah, that's sad I know. I guess they're just not interested. What worries me the most is that we have now a "realistic" radar with "realistic" detection ranges but with completely wrong RCS values. Just imagine what would happen if they correct those RCS values... Radars would break again.
  14. Yes that's right. That should not be any difficult to code, a simple relation between the current RCS values (although they need a fix) and whatever the plane has selected for weapons must do the trick. Just a simple factor without any complex calculation, at least a sum of n quantity if the plane isn't clean.
  15. For an SU27 you're looking at a detection range of 65nm aprox. It is above 10sm RCS.
  16. I did some more tests, and it seems that I was flying very very low and that's why it was so bright. If you fly a little bit higher than 250ft then the lights are barely visible. I think it's limitation of the huey itself, maybe not DCS.
  17. Not right now, but maybe later today. For me it's far from real when the light is extended. When it's stowed beneath the airframe it is quite bright, powerful and real. But as soon as you begin extending it it becomes too dark. I have many hours in the Huey irl as well. Wait... nevermind, I had one pic from yesterday when I was excited to see this.
  18. Well!!!! Nevermind!!! It works fantastic!! I don't since when this happens but I'm happy. We can now do SAR in the ocean during the night!
  19. I'll try in a couple of minutes, but I'm sure I tried thousands of times and the light just don't hit the water at all.
  20. Does the search light illuminate the water now? Like can we do SAR at night?
  21. Wow! So where are we standing right now? Let's see: Hornet's radar range adjusted to actual values Viper's radar range adjusted to actual values Jeff's radar range adjusted to actual values Mirage? Tomcat? Others?
  22. I think that's a Heatblur code, not DCS.
  23. Huh?? What a weird post. Anyway, I was kidding, thanks everyone for your replies. I understand now that the hornet doesn't have the horizontal component of the GDZ.

    Harpoon

I think right now it takes like 40 to take down a warship, hehe.
  25. Yeah, sorry. I'm not very bright you know.
