  1. I know the HMD priority focuses on friendlies and it even has a logic that prevents that your priority order is too crazy. Still, I think I might have come across a bug and wanted to share and see. I have OTHERS selected as more priority than DONORS and the closes friendly above, but the closest friendlies around me are not displayed, instead the donor far ahead is shown. So 6 others and 1 donor for a total of 7 which is the HMD max capacity. Shouldn't the closest friendly be displayed with that configuration? Also, is it normal that the OTHERS item gets less and less slots available the more priority you give it? Is it because of those logics to prevent crazy settings and lose your friends? possible hmd mids setup bug.trk
  2. Yeah, exactly, the systems expects that. There is no room for error. If it gives you the horizontal numbers you could easily give the pilot the vertical component. Topic closed, this is just my opinion and probably why the super hornet have it implemented.
  3. Trust me, one can have that bad SA Anyway. It happened to me dozens of times, where I am in one place patrolling, then get an MGRS coordinate to attack on, and in the rush of the fight I slew up instead of down until I find the SIG I was directed to. I know a good pilot should know that the target was south instead of north, but I also think a good system should help prevent human error. This OFP clearly doesn't do that and it allows a very bad pilot like me to make a mistake.
  4. I never said an AWACS is magic. Get it? Magic? Callsign? Heheheheh, sorry I couldn't resist. But really, I never said that nor I think that. You are bringing a lot of confusion to the table and mixing topics here like IFF. Trust me, an AWACS will see a cold target at 25nm, they don't just use doppler shift for search. Anyway, let's not go offtopic, PM me if you'd like to go further on how an AWACS works. I think we all hope the same thing: ED adjusting things so as to reflect as much as possible real life procedures and behaviors.

    Harpoon

So the Harpoon IRL isn't a missile that would damage a combat ship? You think DCS is accurate in that regard? Honest questions here, not trying to imply anything.
  6. Yeap, that's right. The numbers refer to the horizontal part of the GDZ, but we lack the letter that specifies the vertical part. It's very easy to select the wrong one if you slew in the wrong direction, asi you will find a the same SIG but from a different GDZ. I checked in NATOPS and DCS is actually correct, the legacy hornet lacks this function. It relies on the pilots situational awareness so he doesn't slew in the wrong direction. Bummer for me that have a horrible SA in my mind.
  7. Lol, thanks for the punch. I don't know why you keep mentioning high prf frankly. I just said that AWACS should detect a cold target at 25nm, that's all. Neither you or me know what prf setting the AI is using inside the awacs, and even more there is no reason for it to use a different one. Besides AI doesn't need prf, they just detect things, period. Your point about radar simulation was incorrect as pointed out by harker, there is simply no simulation at all. For the sake of good gameplay and immersion I think an AWACS should perform better, that's all. If a hornet can detect a cold target at 20nm, then a giant AWACS can detect it at 25nm... I certainly think you'll agree with this.
  8. Hey again! Yeah I know, the MC calculates that, or you can even press the REF WP OSB and it will center on the waypoint selected. I was asking more about knowing what SIG corresponds to what GDZ. Because there are a lot of DP, a lot of DE, a lot of VE, etc. I also know that those generally are very apart from eachother but you can easily get confused if given an MGRS coordinate and you slew to the wrong way, then you end up in a very different GDZ. I hope I was more specific this time, sorry bad english I guess.
  9. The coordinates system leaves in evidence that none of the maps are spherical. I might be wrong but that's how I see it.
  10. How can I know what grid zone designation I am selecting when slewing around the SIGs? All I am being told by the system is the square identification grid (like EP) and then input the eastings and northings, but there is no place to select or even know what zone corresponds to what. Is there any way?
  11. Right now an AWACS, with its gigantic dish, is losing a contact that's cold at 25nm (in relation to the AWACS itself). That doesn't sound right at all. So Hornet accurate or not, the radar detection thing is officially broken IMHO. It's no way possible that an AWACS has the same low aspect PD of a Hornet. Is the F16 similar to the 18 now? Or is it still detecting targets like an F15?
  12. I just noticed that this really screwed AWACS efficiency as well. That's why I was getting constant drop outs despite very close AO. This seems to be more of a problem of RCS values for different aircraft instead of something specific to the Hornet. The RCS values in DCS are very different from IRL. It'd be better if ED fixed that first and then adjusted the radars based on known radar equations. I think ED would have corrected those before breaking the whole game. Are we even sure that the values we see in the LUA are in square meters? I'm afraid we're stuck with this performance forever.
  13. So the performance of last year was closer to the real thing? Did ED say when they're planning to correct this?
  14. According to the post you linked, the values from last year were closer to the real thing, so maybe this adjustment was wrong. Maybe it is wrong now to leave space to a better adjustment in the future. Still a down step for now.
  15. I've been away this year and one of the things I found most changed is the detection range of the radar. Before I could see a HOT fighter sized contact at 75nm with small scan volume at HI PRF, now with the same settings and aspect it pops up at 48nm. And I'm talking about a flanker size fighter. I understand how a radar works and don't have any particular doubt about it, though far from expert. I just would like to know if this big change reflects the reality or is perhaps a misinterpretation from ED's part. Thanks.
  16. Maybe a mistake by the designer, I don't know.
  17. I just realized that you posted this on the campaign sub forum, sorry. Anyway, although you cannot do it in the mission planner, you can go to the mission editor, open the mission manually and check that.
  18. Hey Ikaros! It's working fine for me. Try to check in the mission editor if the SAM units don't have the checkbox "Hidden on MFD" on. I think "Hidden on Map" also makes them not available in the SA page. Try both. Let me know.

    Harpoon

So you're saying that the DCS harpoon is well implemented? I thought the little damage it did was incorrect.

    Harpoon

Is the Harpoon still useless? I remember it did almost 0 damage to ships due to a bug and ED was working on it. Does anyone know if it got fixed? I was planning on doing some missions and would not bother with naval ops if it is still broken. Thanks.
  21. I see, thanks! Seems my posts are not going anywhere lately. LOL I made 4 or 5 and they were all wrong. Nice going.
  22. Thanks anyway! The possibility of this being something that cannot be discussed was high so no worries.
  23. Good point. Didn't think of that. I got nothing really. This was just a feeling based on its behavior from a previous build. If it's correct then there's nothing else to say. Thankssss!
  24. I think that's not how it works. The missile just points its seeker directly towards the signal, it cannot do a straight line pointing to X place and then to the signal. I believe Wags even said this many times, and even the missile worked this way before (you could easily see the tip going straight to the SAM). I am not 100% sure though.
