I dont play the beta version either. I just fly the stable version and I'm wondering when the new A10 will be released on the stable version. Until then I'm working on learning the F14.

Repeated calls from various ATC to "Hold Position"
melchionda replied to melchionda's topic in Multiplayer
Thanks, do you guys know if I am hearing the calls to just me or to everyone on the server? I'm thinking I'm hearing calls to other pilots too because I am hearing different languages as well as calls from ATCs at other airports. -
I've been spending some time on the Viper Practice server and I've noticed that regardless of whether or not I ask permission to start up, taxi or take off I will occasionally get repeated calls from the ATC to "Hold Position". This will be repeated over and over again. Sometimes its spoken in other languages. I've heard Russian and what I think might be an asian language. It also seems to be talking to different call signs as well as coming from different ATCs. Its super annoying. Does anyone know what is causing that and how to prevent it from happening?

Ok, maybe that explains why its not working... I've been saying "Connect Ground Air Supply".
-
Hi folks. Just getting into the F14 with Viacom Pro and the AIRIO. I'm having trouble with the start up step where you ask the ground crew to connect the ground air supply. I've tried several different phrases but they dont recognize anything I am saying... and I cant find that command in the list to "train" it. Can someone tell me what the phrase is that I need to look for in the VIACOM PRO F14 commands library for "ground air supply"? I do have the "Ground Power On" command working so I know it can work.

Cool... I'll look for them. So for the Tomcat... you dont actually have to do a "Salute"?
-
Thanks... I hadn't seen that before. I've downloaded it and I'm going to try to print it for bedtime reading. :-) Sean

I'm trying to figure out which of the functions I need to map to my button box to launch the the F14 off of the Super Carrier. Its my understanding that it works different from he F18 where there is only one command (Salute). I'm doing this all in VR so I want to map these functions to my button box. Here are the features I think that I need. 1.) Line up "cheat" (if necessary to straighten the plan on the cat track) 2.) Pilot Salute (I think this is Lshft+LCntrl+S) 3.) Request Launch (Is this LShift+U ?) Does anyone know what the keystrokes are, what the commands are called and where I can find them in the controls list? or... Is there a place that describes this process I've seen some videos but they rely on the comms menu (I dont want to do that) and the manual only talks about LShift+LCntrl+S)

Thanks. Your F14 module is a true work of art and I've decided it will be the next plane that I learn. Not an easy decision as I have the F18, F16, Huey, and Gazelle also. I've got a lot of configuration to do before I can really start to learn it so I'll be asking a bunch of questions over the next few weeks. My hope is that I figure this out to the point that I can get my sons flying with me as a RIO + Pilot combo.

1.) Is there a way to permanetly turn off the control stick? Looks like you have to hit backspace everytime you enter the plane in order to turn it off? There is an option in the DCS UI where you can "Hide Control Stick" but it seems that it doesn't apply to the f14? 2.) The cockpit/interior of the F14 that I see is "aged" ie- scratched up to look used. However in some of the videos that I've seen I see a "New" looking cockpit. I definitely prefer a newer looking cockpit. Is that an option somewhere? 3.) When using Viacom Pro "AIRIO" add on, do you have to say "JESTER" at the start of every command? I thought that you would have to say that, but I find that he doesn't respond when I say "JESTER". On the other hand I just bark a command at him and he responds.

Did the PDF ever get updated? I wanted to print it out.

Key Bindings For A10C Pilots Who Want to Fly Other Planes
melchionda replied to melchionda's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yup, i know that they are different, but there is also a lot that is similar or the same. Just interested in connecting with someone that has made an attempt at it. I've started but was looking to compare notes. -
Hi Folks, I've been flying the A10C with my Thrustmaster Warthog Stick and Throttle. I am not starting to take up the F18, F16 and F14. (Not sure which one I will focus on yet). What I was hoping to do was to bind similar functions in those other planes to the analogous function in the A10C/Thrustmaster Stick and Throttle switches and buttons. So for instance in the A10C we use the collie hat to move between the various MFD and their respective functions. I was hoping to find the analogous functions in the F14, F16, F18 and map that same function to the collie hat on my Wartog throttle. Has anyone already done something similar for any of those planes? Sean

What do you use as a Collective?
melchionda replied to melchionda's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Where did you get that black Collective Head from. It looks awesome. I built some button boxes and a custom wheel for racing about 12 yesrs ago. I was a ton of work but came out really good. Its now sitting in a box collecting dust because my rig is now used for flying. Also, what pipe did you use? It looks really good. -

Using the handbrake is a really good idea. I just dont have the time for another project right now. But I'm tempted. -

So it sounds like inverting my throttles on my Thrustmaster warthog would work. I've actually tried that but it didn't seem to work for me. Maybe because I'm just a terrible helicopter pilot. -
LOL.. I have to disagree with you on that point. As a professional software product designer I can tell you that DCS is woefully inadequate from a UX perspective. If I can find some free time I'm going to do an Audit of the platform and send it over to them. There is a ton of stuff wrong with this application. I spend more time configuring and problem solving than I do actually flying. I've gotten pretty good at the A10C... learning that plane was easier than learning how to build a mission in the mission builder for my son and I to run together. It shouldn't be this hard. DCS needs to invest in a product designer. The simulation part is amazing though.

I've been a DCS user for about 4 months so its all new to me. I was just trying to figure out why after doing the salute I wasn't going anywhere. That was the only thread that was asking the question that I had. Sean

Last night in the F14 I got all the way to waiting to be dragged down the catapult track but nothing happened. I was using the regular pilot salute that I use for the F18 because I didn't know any better. Two questions. 1.) Why do we have to press the "U" key as Maverick instructed in step 3 of his list? What is that? I dont want to use a keyboard for anything so I would either like to bind it to a button or a voice attack command for realism. 2.) Do we have any reason why Heatblur would use a different key stroke to launch the F14 than for what DCS uses for the F18? In the F18 you do the pilot salute... in the F14 you press "Shift+U". why the difference? An ideosyncratic difference like this makes the product harder to learn but doesnt add to the realism.

Jester not recognising 'Loud and Clear' or 'Check'
melchionda replied to hornblower793's topic in VAICOM
And now its working and I have no idea why! LOL! -
What do you folks use as a collective on the helicopters? I have a Thrustmaster Warthog which I love. I attempted to use the throttle as a collective but I haven't had much success making it work. I cant get the curve and the movement of the throttle to mimic a real collective. Also, it doesn't seem like there are a lot of options for collectives out there?

Ok... thats awesome. I'm assuming that you past this into like a lua file or something?

Are the seat position view controls the same for all aircraft or are they different? I'm trying to set up a button box with controls for seat position so I can adjust for different aircraft and I cant seem to find one set. Looking for front, back, left, right, and up, down that I can use for all aircraft.
