  1. I am actually using Viacom Pro. I just didn't think that it would make a difference w/r/t troubleshooting why the comms menu hasn't shown up. The reason that I do not think its an issue is that I think the Viacom pro part of the process is working fine. The reason I think this is because when I bring up the Viacom Pro config screen...(LeftCntrl+LeftShft+C I think) and I push the Mic Switch Switch UP to my COMMS 1 position or forward to the COMMS 2 position I can see that the Viacom Pro UI shows Comms Radio 1 and Comms Radio 2 activating respectively. But if you could be so kind as to help me explore this because maybe there is an issue. Do you remember what thing in the controls menu that you mapped to the different positions on the hat switch?
  2. Ok, thanks for the info... that's really different than what I was expecting. In the A10 I use the pinky switch for the lights (as that is what its for in the real plane) and I was thinking of trying to do the same thing in the F/A18 to keep it all the same between planes. And I use the Speedbrake switch for the Speedbrake so I dont want to use that.
  3. Since you are the one who has this working the closest to what I'm trying to do I need to ask... Are you using a Thrustmast Warthog Throttle? What does the "SS" and the (3) represent in your response? Sorry to be so curious, I'm just ooking for clues here. Stil haven't been able to get the menu to show up via a key binding other than to the "" key. I read in another thread someone suggested RAlt+# to bring up the COMM1 menu and RCtrl+# to bring up the COMM2 menu.
  4. Hi Folks, I fly the A10C with a Thrustmaster Joystick and Throttle and the MFG Crosswind pedals for the Rudder. Everything seems to work great... except for the wheel brakes. So on the Joystick I have a brake with that trigger at the base of the joystick. That works fine I can slow and stop the plane with that trigger. However, I assumed that I am supposed to configure the left and right rudder pedal tilt axis to the left and right wheel brakes of the MFG Crosswind pedals. The result there is that the rudder pedals act like two car brake pedals with one pedal for each of the main landing gear wheels. If I'm wrong in that assumption please let me know. To map those pedals I have to go into Axis Commands and pick Wheel Brake Left and Wheel Brake Right. I can then get the sim to recognize those pedals as the controller for the wheel brakes. However when I am in sim the brake acts more like an "on only" switch. When I depress the rudder pedal to activate the brake the brake goes on, when I take my foot off of the brake the brake stays on. The only way that I can release the brake is to hit a keyboard key for "Brake Release" (I think that's what it is called). Anyway. If anyone has the rudder pedals on the A10C controlling the left and right wheels independently and or you see that I am doing something wrong please let me know how you did it.
  5. Thanks for the reply... by any chance are you using voice attack and or simple comms? Sean
  6. I already asked this on the Hornet thread and no one seems to have a definitive answer so I'll try here... If you... Fly the Hornet in VR... And Have the Thrustmaster Warthog Stick and Throttle How do you get the Comms Menu to show up? I have the Mic Switch TX1 and TX2 mapped to Comms 1 and Comms 2 but thats not working. When I click TX1 or TX2 on the Warthog Mic Switch I get no Comms Menu at all. Note that I dont have any trouble getting the comms menu in the A10c to appear using the Mic Switch mapped to Tx1, TX2, and TX3..
  7. Has anyone purchased prescription lenses for a Pimax headset? If so, where did you get them and how well did they work? I have the 8K+ and wanted to get prescription lenses. Also, do I use my "continual use" prescription or my "reading glasses" prescription?
  8. BINGO... I can almost assure you that I DO have Easy Comms active. I didn't know that I wasn't supposed to have it activated. (I'm trying to avoid having to manually input the radio frequencies into the various radios.) So you are saying that I need to turn Easy Comms off for the F/A-18? I didn't think that Easy Comms was a plane specific setting. Is it? If so where would I turn off Easy Comms for the F/A-18? Or are you suggesting that (based on my description in my original post of how I want this all to work) I turn off Easy Comms for everything? PS - I think I do now have Viacom pro working. just tired it again and I was able to talk to the Vaziani ATC with out have to call out Fox 1, Fox 2, Fox 3, etc.
  9. I'm using the Mic Switch on my Thrustmaster Warthog Throttle. Its a 5 position switch. I'm currently mapping "Comms Switch Comms 1" and "Comms Switch Comm2" in the F/A 18 Sim HOTAS Controls section to the to 12 o'clock position and 3 o'clock potions of that 5 position Mic Switch. Unless there are more than one thing in the F/A18 settings called Comms Switch Comms 1 and 2, I think I'm already doing what you are suggesting.
  10. Hi guys, been flying the A10C for a few months with PTT settings on my Warthog Throttle. I use Voice Attack and Viacom Pro. (Although I cant get Viacom Pro to actually work - but that's a store for another thread). I use Mic switch bound to TX 1-3 for radios, and I use the Comms menu as a "cheat sheet"... So, for example, if I want to request departure I push the Mic switch up to TX1 position and the Comms menu will appear. The local ATC is the first choice in the Comms menu list (F1). I say "Fox 1" and then the ATC menu for the airport will appear. Lets say that request departure is the top choice in that list... so I say "Fox 1" again and the request for departure goes out. A short time later the ATC clears me for departure. Im guessing that this isn't too different from how other people do it. So recently I started playing around with the Hornet... I thought, "Easy, I'll map Comms Switch Comms 1 to "TX1" and Comms Switch Comm2 to "TX2" in the Hornet HOTAS controls. However when in sim in the Hornet I push the Mic Switch to TX 1 or Tx2 I dont get the comms menu. The only way to get the comms menu is to hit the backslash key. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? I definitely do not want to use the keyboard because I fly only in VR and I try to keep my keyboard completely out of the equation w/r/t flying these planes. The other thing I noticed was that in the Communications Control Panel Menu section of the Hornet Settings there are another set of commands that look similar.. Specifically they are "COMM G XMT Switch - Comm 1" and "COMM G XMT Switch - Comm 2". What are these and am I supposed to be using these instead?
  11. How do you uninstall Simple Radio Standalone?
  12. I would love to try this out... or even try flying some missions with other A10 pilots. Im on the west coast and I try to fit in my DCS time when I can. Im on the west cost. PST timezone. So DCS time usually means weeknights between 6 and 11PM. On the weekends its usually 5pm to 10pm. Schedule and duration varies a lot based on life stuff. However if someone where to set a schedule... as long as its not during my west coast working hours I might be able to make it work. The other issue for me is I dont have any voice chat set up yet. I'm trying to decide which voice chat system to set up. I cant get the DCS one to work at all.
  13. Awesome vid... watched it this morning. So the big question I have is when do we get the monocle?
  14. ^This is really awesome info; ... Thanks! I want my flying to be as real as possible so this is good to know. so my question about the AI calling out angles and ranges... do you think they are calling it out from their position? (That was the heart of my original question.) It seems to me that unless you know the origin point of the angle and range info, then the info is useless right?
  15. That makes sense in that my assumption would be that before you go out to the ramp and get in your A10 you probably attend some sort of briefing where they tell you whats out there and potentially where it might be.
  16. I was just using mudspike as an example. But my point would be applicable for all ground targets. Regarding the RWR, yes, I definitely have the RWR working and I use it but its a pretty small and basic UI, not sure how you can get accurate range off of that. For me it just gives a general approximation of what's out there and were it might be. What I'm really looking for is a way to get the kind of accuracy that you can actually find the target and create a markpoint or SPI.
  17. Folks, can anyone recommend a good tutorial on how to spot ground targets based on other pilots spotting and calling out the ground targets? If a JTAC sends me the target it's pretty straight forward.. but if a pilot in the flight calls out a target... ie- "Mudspike 11 o'clock for 15!" How do I locate that? Right now the only way to find these targets is to leave the "Dots" on in the options so you can see the little red dots where the enemy is. I'd like to be able to fly with out that. I'm guessing that if all of the planes are on the same heading you can very roughly approximate a direction on the TAD and then using the concentric range rings on the TAD approximate where it might be and then make a SPI there and then start searching around with the TGP? (I'm just guessing here so let me know if there is a source for learning the right technique?).
  18. Do we have to run PiTool and SteamVR to use our Pimax headsets or can we just run SteamVR? Ive been running both because I thought that we had to.
  19. Interesting conversation. So is the conclusion that we should turn Hyperthreading off? I'm running an Intell Core i7 990X processor.
  20. Best Settings for 8K+ in DCS? Hi folks. Is there a post somewhere with the best settings for the Pimax 8K+ in DCS? I saw one that had an exhaustive set of configurations for the 5K... but was thinking that it might be different for the 8K.
  21. I just bought the F14 and noticed jester was coming through the surround speakers and not my headset. I thought I had something configured wrong... evidently not. I too am looking forward to seeing this fixed.
  22. I just started playing around the F14. One of the first things that I noticed was that the dialog coming from the guy in the backseat is not going through my headphones but rather my surround sound system. Is there a special setting I need to adjust for that? I don't seem to have that problem when I fly the A10. All of the radio comms come through my headphones. Is there something special about the F14 that I need to configure?
  23. this sounds really fun... how are you guys communicating? I'm still trying to get chat up and running.
