  1. You don't think this difference is worth it? https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-12700K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-5800X/4119vs4085
  2. Yes, I watched the first one and now the build but it's 2 hours long. So, you think I should go with the 5800x? That will save some money. It uses a smaller cooler, cheaper, slower memory. I don't believe it can be overclocked either. Probably a lower watt PS too. Is the 3080 still a good choice? The hunting game is only calling for 2070 super card as the recommended. A 3070 would be more than enough. It comes out Aug 16th. so we have the specs for it. The next hunting game come out in Dec and could require more system. I hate to buy a system that not fast enough. To be honest I think i'll be doing the hunting games more than anything else. Isn't the Intel faster than the AMD? That's not fair. I'm comparing the 5800 to almost the fastest Intel. Certain games like one or the other better. I know ACC gets more fps with the 5800 than any Intel. I think DCs likes Intel better. No idea about hunting games but probably doesn't matter. Anything can run them at max settings. No fast action. We're walking. I also hunt alone, so no multi.
  3. That's more expensive. When choosing the i7-12700K it upgrades the water cooling, ram to DD5 5200, and motherboard. It still kept the PS at 750w. That surprised me. It's $2800 with a 3080. So, $300-$400 more than anybody else with the same specs. They seem like a good company. Reminds me of Falcon Northwest, except cheaper. Falcon starts at $4000 and goes up from there. Too much.
  4. I like what I see at Origin. I can get what I want for around $2500 but it will have to be an AMD CPU. They must like them because I don't see Intel offered at all. So, a 5800X, 3080, 32g ram, water cooled. 5-7 days to build. edit....No. they have Intel. I didn't see the button to choose it. I'll see what that comes to.
  5. Sorry, I misread what you said. You asked if anybody saw bad reviews of other companies. Yeah, Xidax is a dead issue. I'm glad I didn't give them any money yet. It might be hard to get it back. I'm looking at the Origin website now.
  6. You didn't click the link? That's a lot of bad reviews. Better Business Bureau didn't look any better. Just google Xidax Reviews and see what you get. I can't take a chance. Money is tight with me. I'm living on an SS check.
  7. Well, i'm glad I caught this. I should have researched the company better. Good thing I have given them any money yet. These are the worse reviews i've ever seen. https://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/xidax.com Damn! Looking for a system again.
  8. My plan is to be just doing hunting games by then. They're easy to run compared to DCS and ACC. Good plan huh? I'm hoping this will be the last system I buy. I am kind of old to be going on forever.
  9. I will. The hardest part will be waiting for it. They gave me a $77 discount. So, it's $2492 for system but I just added the monitor to the order. So, another $331. I managed to get what I want and kept it under my $3000 budget. Plus, I have a lifetime warranty. What value can we put on that? He told me if the power supply burns out in 10 years they'll send me a new one. Not sure how they can do that but i'm not complaining. He also said if an item goes bad that has been updated and is no longer available they'll send me the updated version. So, is so many years the 3080 card goes belly up and is no longer available they'll send me a 4000 series card? That's nuts!
  10. The only thing that concerns me is Win 11. My plan was to stay with Win 10 but he talked me out of it. He said Win 11 is a better gaming OS and they worked out the bugs it had when it was first released. He also talked about the motherboard working better with Win 11 but he lost me when he got technical of why. So, Win 11 it is. I hope it's a good decision.
  11. Yes, EW but COTW turned out to be too arcade. I like Classic much better. I bought the new system for the two new hunting games coming out Way of the Hunter and Ultimate Hunting. They would have been too much for my old system but the new one should let me run max settings. I'll still fly DCS but make up more simple missions to keep my memory from failing. I've never been able to turn on shadows in DCS. I'm looking forward to doing that. I used to say I don't like shadows and keep them turned off. Truth is my old system couldn't run them and maintain good fps. I feel good about who I bought the system from. They seem like a good company and spent a lot of time helping me pick out what I need in the system. I was surprised he thought I should have a 1000w power supply but what do I know? He's built 1400 systems and i've built one. Thank you. I thought an SSD of 1TB was massive. My old system only had 240g. I put everything on it including Windows. I'll add another one if it turns out I need it. Thanks. Thanks.
  12. Actually, DCS will get the least play from me because of my old man memory. Race sims like ACC, iRacing, and GPL will get a lot. I've also got into the new Hunting sims since I had to retire from hunting last fall. The new ones coming out are more system hungry but still nothing like DCS and ACC. I see myself going more and more towards hunting sims because of the slower pace of it. The scenery looks so good it's fun to just hike around in it. I do miss elk hunting but it's so hard at 11,000ft that my body finally won the fight with my mind. Carrying out 250lbs of meat at high altitude is not for 80 year old farts like me. The sim will fill in that gap in my life. Well, i'm glad the system is bought. I hate trying to find the right one for me. Thanks for the help guys.
  13. That's as big as I should go because I sit close. Any bigger and i'd be moving my head too much. I only have a 21" now, so 27" will seem big to me.
  14. Good choice? https://us.msi.com/Monitor/Optix-G273QPF
  15. Ok, I bought a system. Have you guys heard of Xidax? I read good reviews, built in Utah, workmanship looks top notched. The best part and this seems unheard of......a lifetime warranty on parts and labor. Price is better than the others too. They build to order, so a couple of weeks to wait. They have some prebuilts too but none were exactly what I wanted. I bought this. X-6 $2,570.00 GAMMA DARK Case INTEL CORE i7 12700KF 12 CORE 4.9GHz Xidax Ultra RGB 240mm AIO Water Cooler MSI Pro Z690-A XIDAX APPROVED 80PLUS GOLD POWER SUPPLY's: 1000W G.SKILL Trident Z Neo 3600MHZ 16GB: 32GB (16x2) NVIDIA RTX 3080 10GB WD BLUE SN570 NVME M.2 SSD: 1 TB Xidax Gaming Shield -Virus & Malware Protection Windows 11: Home Whatcha think? https://www.xidax.com/
  16. I tested my present system so I can compare to my newer system late. I can improve on this one for sure but it's been run a gazillion hours for almost 6 years PC Status Overall this PC is performing as expected (56th percentile). This means that out of 100 PCs with exactly the same components, 44 performed better. The overall PC percentile is the average of each of its individual components. Processor With a brilliant single core score, this CPU is the business: It demolishes everyday tasks such as web browsing, office apps and audio/video playback. Additionally this processor can handle moderate workstation, and even light server workloads. Finally, with a gaming score of 85.5%, this CPU's suitability for 3D gaming is very good. Graphics 55.2% is a reasonable 3D score (RTX 2060S = 100%). This GPU can handle the majority of recent games but it will struggle with resolutions greater than 1080p at ultra detail levels. (Note: general computing tasks don't require 3D graphics) Boot Drive 79.7% is a good SSD score. This drive enables fast boots, responsive applications and ensures minimum system IO wait times. Memory 32GB is enough RAM to run any version of Windows and it's far more than any current game requires. 32GB will also allow for large file and system caches, virtual machine hosting, software development, video editing and batch multimedia processing. OS Version Windows 10 is the most recent version of Windows, and the best to date in our opinion.
  17. Keep this in mind. I don't play multi in DCS, so 32g of memory is more than i've ever needed. Even a full field of cars in multi for ACC I never needed more than 32g. As for the 3090? I believe it would be wasted with me just using a single monitor. The link I posted is probably more system than I need. Going back to my original $2200 will probably buy a system that will handle all I need now. I was going to spend more to make it future proof longer. Maybe. I do want to keep under $3000 and my monitor is two systems old. It's a Dell and bought it when I got the Alienware. That was 10 years ago. It must be ready to quit. Still looks good but how long do monitors last? It's been on almost everyday for 10 years. I know you're trying to help. We're all different though and have different needs. I'm better off buying built. The extra few hundred pays for me not getting frustrated with a system I built. Assembly is easy. It's getting all the software right with no conflicts etc.
  18. I wish I could but I don't even know where to look. I don't even know another gamer near me. Everyone is more into outdoors sports. I am too but being retired and single I have more time than most. I was hoping you'd post in this thread. Is there a built system you recommend for me? Keeping in mind i'll be using a single monitor. 1080 now but could go to a 1440 but not an ultrawide. I sit pretty close to a monitor and don't need a real big one.
  19. Let me be clear. I would never pay $2100 for a system I built. The link I gave was to show the system. Not where i'd buy it. Although I have done business with that store and was happy with the service. I can't imagine what could go wrong with a system that'd have to ship it back. I may not want to build the system but I can fix what would go wrong with it if warranty sends me the parts. I've bought built systems from Falcon Northwest, Alienware, ABS, and one other I can't remember. I've never needed to use the warranty. The only system that gave me problems was the one I built. It summer. I'd rather spend my time gaming, fly fishing, and tying flies than messing with a computer. It's not my thing. Building Jeeps for rock crawling, hunting, fishing, hiking 14,000ft mountains with my dog are more me. Computers are just a tool so I can game. They aren't my hobby. Just saying.
  20. I found the same system but with a 3080 ti for just $50 more. That seems like a good deal. I don't need the keyboard and mouse. Probably give them away. I would have thought the parts would add up to more. That's a lot to assemble it. However, how much value can we put on a warranty? Shipping is free, so just some tax will be added. It's more than I wanted to spend because I wanted to get a monitor too and keep it under $3000.
  21. What do you think? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1675169-REG/msi_aegis_rs_12te_257us_aegis_rs_i7_12700k_rtx3080_16gb_1tbssd_2tbhdd_w11ha.html/qa?SID=s16573076881624q6ha52417
  22. Headwarp..........I live in a small mountain town in the Colorado Rockies. All I buy here is food and gas. Everything else I buy online. So, no store to go to. I did the Dell Alienware once and it was a so-so experience. I'll try something different this time. Surprisingly, my present system is an ABS. I believe I got it from Newegg. I think it's their brand. I've never seen it recommended but mine just keeps chugging along running DCS and other games/sims at 70-80fps with zero problems. My 1080 monitor and the fact I don't like shadows and turn them off helps keep my fps up to an acceptable number. I think I got lucky and don't want to try another ABS. I never owned an AMD, but have stayed with Intel. I see AMD recommended a lot and i'm unsure if I should go that way. I know i'll stay with a Nvidia card though. Still looking.
  23. I tried building my own system once. I had nothing but trouble with it. I have more knowledge now but not enough to build my own. I'd rather pay more and get a warranty and an experienced built system.
  24. I'd do it. Buy me a V12 and i'll show you.
