Yes, It's intentional as far as modding files in the main game folder is concerned. All custom mods are supposed to go to Saved Games location nowadays.

 

The problem is, placing files affecting FoV there doesn't work either. Apparently someone decided the view settings are to be "protected" for multiplayer. This is unacceptable solution for strictly offliners - for example, the change made the MiG-21 unflyable for me and looks like I'm not allowed to do anything about it.

 

I really hope ED is going to figure out something better.

Views should be placed in:

 

 

Enable Snap Views:

 

RCTRL+RSHIFT+NUMPAD / and * to move forward and backwards.

 

RCTRL+RSHIFT+NUMPAD Up(8 ), Down(2),Left(4), Right(6) to Move Camera Up, Down, Left, Right.

 

NUMPAD Up(8 ), Down(2) to rotate head up/down

NUMPAD Left(4), Right(6) to rotate head left/right

NUMPAD / and * to Zoom In/Out.

 

NUMPAD 5 To Reset Position

NUMPAD Enter to Reset Zoom

 

 

RALT+NUMPAD0 To Save as Default View/Position for This Aircraft.

 

/Saved Games/DCS.<install>/Config/Views/Snapviews.LUA

 

from there you can edit the Default View of each aircraft:

Thanks Skate, that might be a workaround I need. Never used snapviews, as they were not necessary up to that point.

 

Will experiment with this method for sure.

Skate, your answer is related to the snap views which allow to set the head position in cockpit and a default FOV.

Is the view configuration, including max and min FOV defined in server.lua, stored in user folder still working? I didn't observe a problem but I didn't had time to check with all of the modules.

If I understand your question correctly - no hard feelings, it’s a bit cryptic :) - it’s the zoomed out and un-zoomed one. Snap views define the default FOV, the one that you get when hitting restore default view shortcut (can't recall but I think it's Num Enter?).

Max FOV (how for it zooms out) is stored in the view.lua or in the server.lua in user folder. The trick with max FOV is that it can be set to the same value as default FOV for two benefits - no zoom out at start, if slider is assigned to the zoom it's all travel space is dedicated to zoom in, making it more precise.

I've been always using slow zoom command assigned to TrackIR longitudinal axis. That eliminated the annoying initial zoom out effect. Well, at the beginning of the mission the view still zooms out, but then jumps back to narrow FoV immediately and this is the preferred "default" for me.

 

That's why I'm not familiar with more in-depth tweaks of server.lua and view.lua files. The modded view files I was using up till now for F-86 and MiG-21 don't work anymore, but I hope I can get around this problem using Skate's tip above.
