well, thanks. and in return i thank you and your team for this fine piece of hardware. i've been considering buying a flightsystem for years now, never was truly satisfied and now the g940 with FFB was the answer. i really like the ergonomic design by the way (esp. the A-10 Throttle), it is built for the hands not for the eyes, it does not even try to look "fancy" and doesn't distract you from looking on the monitor.

@Gadroc

i already was at this point, sensitivity, curvature, saturation, FFB trim precision. i even messed around with everything ffb-related i found in the lua-files, but there are simply too many unclear influences on the steering with FFB-trim. read my other posts if you want, described it there: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=45561

basically, with turning down sensitivity, you loose ffb trim precision. but if you tune sensitivity in the logi-profiler only, leaving the settings in BS on default, it's almost acceptable.

i really hope that ED will look into the FFB-implementation again and will give us a patch or hotfix...

thanx for your excelent G940 guide! I´m a new proud G940 owner (and I´m also from Germany, so please excuse my bad English :)). I would like to understand with which settings your are flying now. I understand that you

applied the axis settings in the Logitech settings according to this post

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=761302&postcount=17

and you applied the quick an dirty macro according to this post

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=761308&postcount=52

Is it possible to post your G940 xml file - it would be very nice :D!!

I'm having serious issues with the centering force adjustment via the controllers settings window. it works properly while open but when its closed, the stick goes completely rigid and is way too stiff to use when i have my hand over the sensors, and when i dont, its about where it should be with resistance, which to me sounds opposite to how the sensors should work.

ideas?

I've noticed similar "slop". See post 16 in the post below from G940Mark where he talks about "play" for a possible explanation.

http://forums.logitech.com/t5/PC-Gaming/G940-force-feedback-problem-crackling-sound/td-p/380795/page/2

I'm not entirely sold on that answer. If it where a case of game problem tweaking the sensitivity in the profiler would not change the slop. If I set both axis sensitivity to 100% the stick just stick where ever I hit trim. If I set it 50% or lower the stick will "slop" back almost halfway to center.

@gadroc

there is definitely something not working well with the ffb implementation in dcs:bs.

i had the exact same problem with the saitek evo force. somehow everything is connected, overall precision, precision of ffb trim, ffb trim behaviour, saturation settings, curvature settings, sensitivity.

just try these scenarios:

in the windows game controller settings, all forces to 100%.

in the logi-profiler sensivity 0 - 100%.

in bs-options axis tune curvature -10 (play around with negative and positive values).

in ff tune options trimmer force 50-100.

if you go more than +25 in bs curvature setting the ffb trim effect will vanish or may become completely unpredictable. use ctrl enter to see how the stick indicator is starting to make strange jumps or movements.

Oh my lord what have I got myself into here.

Can someone point me to some reading I can do regarding the most basic setup?

I confess I have no idea and that's why I need to read.

I got my 940 yesterday installed the drivers today, opened the Logitech profiler set it to BS and started the game naively thinking I could do a couple of quick circuits. I pushed/pulled the throttles thinking I was operating the collective and low and behold the cyclic was moving. Hence I crashed into the fuel truck.

I was using a MS FFB2 but decided a HOTAS would be nice but I'm in way over my head here.

As I said can anyone point me to some literature?

I would not like to ask for help here because it's obvious to me that I have no idea with this thing.

I fly an AS355 for a living, that's not the problem, the software is.

Unfortunately Black Shark will generate axis commands for you. You need to go in and clear them out. Not sure why it does this because it assigns different axxis to the same command. Very frustrating when trying to figure things out.

Its because the system detects the G940 as three different inputs like if you had three joysticks at the same time, not as one system if you know what I mean?

Thankyou so much, I was really wondering what I had got myself into but that has cleared things right up for me. At least now I can fly although I can see a lot of work in binding all the other controls.

I don't know about others here but I find the trimmer implentation on this stick almost perfect. On the MS FFB2 it was a nightmare as the stick would nearly break your wrist as it shot off into a roll to the right. I used to fly with the trimmer activared all the time with the FFB2. With this stick it's brilliant.

To the OP, sorry for the the Hijack but I was getting desperate there for a while.

I am finally happy with the following:

Logitech FFB settings: Default

Logitech DCS Profile Setting: Sensitivity X @ 30%, Y @ 30 %, Mini-X and Mini-Y sensitivity at 0 % and range at 70%

DCS Joy Settings: FFB trim 100 %, No Curves, deadzones, etc.

This allows for smooth hover FD on or off. Autopilot will hold hover evan as you fiddle with joystick buttons. Trim will solidly hold attitude through about 250 KPH. After that, you must very slightly "overtrim" in order to get a solid attitude hole. Overall, a pretty satisfying setup for me.

Eric have you contacted some of the other owners who have been working real hard on getting the stick right? I just wonder if they have reviewed your findings and am very interested to hear thier thoughts about your set up. A bunch of us are on the fence about this stick so opinions right now are really helpful. thanks for the feedback! lol

This is useful.

Go to ...Logitech\Gaming Software\Logitech_SDK_For_PC_1.00.002.zip ...

on your Pc , unpack the "Joystick" folder and start the *.exe inside.

Now you can change the colors of the buttons, but without any bindings to the funktions. But it's a beginning ...;)

I'd continue to stay on the fence for now if I were you. Logitech pushed this thing out into the public with no documentation and minimal support. It's getting better but I think I would let the $300 beta-testers continue their "work" and see if logitech can get their act together. Plus, the mini-stick and DCS don't seem to communicate so well and moving the shkval around is a bit of a chore as it tends to go drifting off on it's own. As far as the stick itself goes, I'm happy with my settings but I'd prefer a little bit of a centering spring effect in other sims. Until Logitech allows FFB settings to change from game to game, the player is forced to make global changes each time he switches sims. In other words, it was released to the world about 6 months too early. Wait 'till x-mas!

Big thumbs up.

I just flew a mission with those settings and it felt comfortable. Still a few times when trimming I had to manhandle it but not nearly as bad as the last few configurations I've tried.

This might sound stupid but where do I apply the sensitivity settings for X and Y in BS? I can only find saturation, curvation and deadzone under axis tune. Is saturation the same as sensitivity? I'm swedish so this is rather confusing :)

You set those in the G940 profiling application. Open the profiler, select the blackshark profile, select the joystick, then click on the axis in the lower left corner should be setting option in the pop up menu.

Damn I didn't read it carefully, I thought I should do this in BS :)

Thanks

I should add to my post above that while the stick settings work great, the mini-stick does not, no matter what I do. I know this isn't a flaw in the stick because I can use the logitech software to Check numerical values for mini-stick positions as I move it--and it's perfect. Perhaps it's a directx issue and will be fixed soon enough. If anyone has gotten it to work in DCS or LOMAC, I'd appreciate any help. BTW, my gunnery has never been so good in IL2. I feel like I'm cheating! This has done for my ability to stay in control in a dogfight what Trackir has done to help keep SA.

LOGITECH, for all the genius you have put into this stick, you've done a dreadful job documenting how to use it. It's a shame because many would-be happy owners have returned their sticks, just as I almost did, because they didn't have the time to invest tweeking it. Are you guys in a bunker in China? Do you care if this great product sells? Help us help you market this thing or lose thousands of sales to fence sitters hoping for a better product from Saitek.

I tried out these settings last night, and they're not bad. Lately, I've been playing with the 1.01 non-FFB mode, which I consider the "best" mode--when it works. But unfortunately, no matter what I do, there's always about a 5-10% chance that it won't detect when I recenter the stick/rudder, causing control lockup. Increasing "spring" strength to 150% helps, but does not cure.

Using the 30% sensitivity settings with FFB is at least consistent. It also reduces notice of the stick's central area "play/slop", and appears to minimize the hard post trim bounce. One trick that I've incorporated that also helps is the use of one or two trim clicks depending on what I'm doing. If I'm trimming just to relieve pressure on the stick, I'll click once. If I'm trimming to go hands-free, I'll trim once, then trim again a second later. This second click seems to do a fairly good job of suppressing the bounce when I finally release the stick.

Hi,

I just got my 940 the other day and integrated it into my cockpit. Worked fine with FSX. But when I fired Blackshark I was able to get into the program ok and make changes to the command assignment within the game (I am not a big fan of profile software). One thing I noticed is that the program defaulted to placing the same command across all three devices (I went through and deleted the duplicate assignments). When I went to try it out in instant action I got an error message saying something was wrong with blackshark saying it was either corrupted or had a virus. Virus scan brought up nothing. Has anyone else had a similar encounter. Is this what the "anti-piracy" software looks like when you change hardware?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

BT
