When I land mid mission, re-fuel/re-arm by selecting the ground crew on the radio and going through the # options everything appears fine, they say it's all done and dusted. The problem is when I take off again with the ground channel still selected they shout at me.

I assume I am missing a step, any ideas?

Regards

Yes they're shouting :D It is very funny, I didn't set back radio to normal mode but left on ground mode to hear their anger :D

Just switching your radio to "ground crew" doesn't allow you to talk to them in real life until they plug into the aircraft. The game simulates this by assuming that when that switch is in the ground crew position, the ground crew have their headsets plugged into the aircraft. They are yelling at you because to get them to unplug, you need to switch the radio back away from ground crew, which is the game's way of simulating them unplugging and moving away.

At least that's my take on it. ;)

I was on a campaign mission last night, went back to the FARP to rearm, switched radio to ground crew and asked for ANTI-tank rearming, and the answer from the ground crew was "What are you doing?".

But I got my weapons onboard and they followed with the standard "Rearming complete".

Probably a pending shout from before.

The ground crew will totally say that if you don't ask for takeoff, every time. Also since external AC/DC power is on by default in every mission initially it'd be nice if you unplugged from the truck before flying away but I don't think they care in the sim.

.

Someone has to try to rearm from a low alt-hover (2 or 3 ft) over the base and give us some intel ... :D

Heh, just switching channels without asking for permission to takeoff it's rather like taking of with the headset plugged in and later tell them "Oh, sorry, didn't hear you." :D j/k

Yeah just switching chanels seemed like I was missing something. Of course I wouldn't hear them if I wasn't on the correct chanel :D

Yeah I think I should start asking for take off permision :)

I'm not understanding you, are you saying that you have to ask the ground crew if you can take off, using the intercom with the ground crew? And not by switching to the radio and asking the tower?

Posted

I don't know.

What I usually do is make a landing after not telling anyone, switch to ground channel, re-arm/re-fuel and take off again with the ground channel still active.

I thought I was missing something as switching it back to the normal radio channel seemed like I was cheeting as the ground crew would still be complaining, I just couldn't hear them.

If they yelled at you, that means you were flying around with a pair of headsets hanging off the side of the aircraft :P

Kinda reminds me of those people driving around the road with the fuel hose ripped off and dragging along side of the car ;)

I just made a joke about the situation and the way you described it - nothing else.

You imagine based on RL that in the sim ground-crews unplug their headset when turning the knob. But you wouldn't know, because after turning the knob, you are no longer on their channel and able to hear them!

So translated back to RL, if you'd do the same in a real helo, the groundcrew would behave exactly the same as your observations in the sim: After turning the knob, you can't hear them any longer. But in RL that doesn't mean they're unplugged, so taking your procedure back into RL, just switching and taking off, you wouldn't hear any complains from the ground-crew either - at least not until you return to base.

You might get a call from the controller asking if you could please return his ground crew, tho. :D
