Never really known what true discipline is here.

My presumption is as follows

When starting up

Formation - ON

Position - FLASH

Nose lights - TAXI

When Taxiing/Taking off

Formation - ON

Position - STEADY

Nose lights - LAND

When Fencing in

All lights off

When Fencing out

Back to panel settings

So tell me, how many millions of miles off am I?

There are minor variations from unit to unit etc. but,

Startup/Taxy

Nav - Flash

Anti Col - Off

Takeoff (before entering active)

Nav - Steady

Anti Col - On

Landing/Taxy Light - On/Landing

Formation lights are as required, i.e. on at night off during the day. Taxy lights are the same when taxying, on when required, i.e when you need it to see where you're going.

In flight

Nav - Steady

Anti Col - On unless in close formation at night (all off but the last man in the formation)

And obviously, in combat (fenced in), all off.

Thanks very much!

Building myself a checklist that is easy to read on my phone and I'd like it to be as realistic as possible.

As Eddie mentioned, small variation:

Startup:

Anti Col - off

Nav - flash (before engine startup)

Taxi - off

Startup - engines on:

Anti Col - off

Nav- steady

Taxi - off

Taxi

Anti Col - Off

Nav - steady

Taxi - on

Take off

Anti Col - On (just before entering the active runway)

Nav - steady

Taxi - on

I checked this out when I registered on the 476th forum Snoopy - Thanks so much for the hard work!

For full length ops it's indispensable, however for basic flights I found it a little hard to navigate. No discredit to the author but I found that the layout was a little lacking, making it challenging to read at a glance.

It seems like everyone has a different process for starting up the Hog!

Here is the current iteration of my checklist. Any feedback would be appreciated. It's less detailed than some, but I feel that it strikes a sensible balance between (Relative) realism and speed!

I found this official document PILOT OPERATIONAL PROCEDURES--A/OA-10(PACAF) on

http://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/docs/11oa10v3.pdf

I'm not sure if its in the DCS A-10C documents collection as most of the links for these documents are currently broken, but its very interesting and I recommend you download it while you can.

It has this to say about lighting:

*3.19.2. Night Takeoff. For formation takeoffs, flight/element leaders will turn the anti-collision strobes OFF and position

lights BRIGHT (DIM as desired) STEADY when reaching the run-up position on the runway. At the flight leader's

direction wingmen may leave anti-collision strobes OFF until brakes release subsequently turning the anti-collision strobes

ON and position lights BRIGHT—STEADY for takeoff. The flight/element lead may direct wingmen to turn or leave the

strobes OFF anytime the lights cause distraction. All aircraft will turn formation lights ON. During a night formation

takeoff, call brake release and configuration changes over the radio. Following takeoff, each aircraft/element will climb on

runway heading to 1,000 feet AGL and accelerate to 200 KIAS before initiating turns, except where departure

instructions/local procedures/obstructions specifically preclude compliance.
