Darth_Wayner Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Why do I get this error every time DCS attempts to update? For update 1.2.6 and now 1.2.7 I've had to do complete removal and clean installs because DCS Updater has this error. I'm running windows 7 64 bit. I have rebooted the computer to ensure any processes that may have been started on my initial attempt were stopped.
Darth_Wayner Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) So there's some salt in the wound.... I just did the full clean install and double-clicked the DCS World icon. This sent the program out to look for updates, and I got the same error message.... Which means, unless this gets resolved I can look forward to another complete wipe on the next update. Hopefully there's a way to salvage my controller settings and logs or I'll pretty much be giving up on anything else DCS related, like all of those other aircraft I -was- planning to buy. Devrim Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 The anti-virus software you're currently using may effect on this. I realize that my software (Comodo) involves every installation and I struggle with it. So, (maybe it's wrong choice, but) I deactive or shut it down before installing trusted softwares like DCS... Darth_Wayner Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 Actually, I don't run any AV software. So that's not it. I've found that the best defense against viruses is to avoid email and web surfing entirely. That's what tablets are for. My gaming machine is for games. Period. 1

AtaliaA1 Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Another user had this issue. It was caused be VLC Media player taking control of Bin Files. He uninstalled VLC, Not being PC savvy enough to use VLCs properties to remove its control of the file in question. You may try either method. Should you have VLC installed or a like program. kmb Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Right click Update DCS World icon in the DCS World folder, left click properties, click the Security tab, click on SYSTEM to highlight it, if it shows as Allowed full control then click the Advanced tab. Click on SYSTEM to highlight it and click the Change permissions tab. Click on SYSTEM to highlight it and click the Edit tab. Tick the Deny box next to Full Control in the permissions list. Click OK and Apply, you should now be able to update as normal. Hope this helps, it worked for me.
