The hardware is on order, and will be building everything around the i5-4670K, plus a 250GB SSD. I haven't ordered the O/S as of yet. Doing a little research for the moment, to determine if I should go with Win7 professional (OEM), or Windows 8.1. Would like a little feedback, especially if I were to go with Win 8.1. I plan to pull this from my existing gamer system, and reuse: - TrackIR 5 - TM Cougar MFD - Saitek X52 (though I've per-ordered the X55) - Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals - HD 7870 (will use this GPU for now) - Asus Xonar sound card Anyone encounter any issues with the hardware listed above? Other than that, you should be good to go. Don't focus too much on the Metro interface, just bypass it with a little startup proggy which gives you a decent start button. If you use any program from the Metro interface that isn't a real app, you'll be looking at your desktop anyway when you close it. Also, if you don't want to login to your own PC everytime you boot it up, bypass the Microsoft account and create a non Microsoft account without password when you install Win8. You can create one if you really need it. Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. At a later date, I plan to add a 1TB SATA HDD, (to host the lessor performing apps). :) For my MB bios, make sure it's set for AHCI, right? javelina1 Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 Bios was defaulted to AHCI, so no worries. took me a couple hours, but I had all the hardware installed, (new case, PDU, MB, RAM, GPU, etc...). All came up fine. Laid down Win 8.1, which was a pretty quick install. Came right up on my wireless, had to install about 35 updates. My first impression of the O/S, not to bad. Seems real peppy. Later this weekend, I'll make the effort to install DCSW, and start moving over the controllers and TrackIR. I'll hunt around, but I saw some notes about deactivating modules first from the old computer, and then installing and reactivating onto the new host... (I'm also using the 13.9 /bin "fix" as well. Plus all the standard perf tweaks). Flying the A-10C is like a whole new sim! lunaticfringe Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I actually did the new rig thing last weekend myself; went from a ThinkPad running a first gen i7 and a 1GB Quadro card (would make 29fps average with everything toned down but the models and distance), to a 4770k/Maximus VI Hero/760 GTX/16GB RAM. Threw in a Warthog cause I couldn't be bothered to finish wiring up my Suncom F-15 stick and throttle USB conversion. Should have done it sooner. :D

lunaticfringe Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 The problem is now that because the parts look so sick, I'm thinking of case modding at least a side lit panel (complete with sandblasted Playboy bunny logo) and having the case anodized (black), with red trim. You know, playing on the VX-4 motif F-14 and F-4. :D And I've never been one for case mods. Had the same nice Lian-Li aluminum for going on twelve years...
