Guess the crew got a kill on their record for that one. I was just recording a track against a pair of F-14s BVR - finished earlier than that fight usually did, and I couldn't work out where one of the F-14s had gone. Went back and watched the replay . . . . Tomcat #2's Phoenix came off the rail . . . . directly into the back of his leader :D This happens way too often for me when I send out AI to do ground attacks, they go for similar targets and the leader gets a rocket in the rear, and to be honest, it's not an effective clusterbomb. It's not the only one... that I know, there was also an F-16 which was shot down by the iron bomb which bounced back soon after release and exploded under the wing. I guess "cat" as in "catapult" is more probable with carrier planes ;) Quite a long list after all, goes to show it's still a risky business in the end. There's a story somewhere about a Hornet that inhaled the catapult guard strips . . . . great big rubber things.
