I wonder if there are true "3D" gaming headphones, which somehow detects your head position and adjust sounds accordingly (in similar way as TrackIR/Occulus adjust view): you turn your head right and hear engines (behind you) mostly through your right ear; you turn your head left and hear engines in left ear...

Sennheiser hd600s or 595s...unless you need a microphone

Well is sort of does, if you use surround headphones with track ir!

For PC gaming, I've been using my trusty Beyerdynamic DT 250 (80ohm version is good compromise and it's easy load for consumer outputs found on PCs) for ages. Accurate, clean sounding and extremely reliable. Those are pro headphones made by pro company and every part is user replaceable - from drivers to cable. Basically, you can buy parts and put the headphones together from scratch. So, you can use them forever. If you want headphones only that sound great and which you will still use in ten years time, these are highly recommended.

Now, I needed some new gaming headsets, so I've got Razer Blackshark few weeks ago. Sound is obviously lot worse than DT250 (Bass is mushy and lower mids lack definition), but it's more than ok for gaming and decent mic with excellent removable mic arm is included. Design is based on actual pilot headset, only fluorescent green cable spoil the appearance (I know it's Razer trademark, but it just look tacky on aviation headset.)

G930 works great and mates well with the TIR Proclip. I have used the wireless model for four years without issue. Made my Proclip wireless as well. Headset Battery lasts 10 hours. I can't complain. Others do. I can walk around outside the house and still pick up TS3 or game sounds. Yeah with the Proclip Antlers you will get funny looks.

Shop around for better pricing.

I use a Beyerdynamic MMX300 (~300€), probably the best Headset available.

It is very expensive, but worth every buck. The sound quality exceeded every

expectation i had, be prepared to experience subtleties you've never heard before.

Before that, i used the Sennheiser PC360 Headset (~160€), which are also very

good, but not on par with the MMX300. The advantage of the PC360 is the

open design and the wearing comfort, you can wear them for hours and you

will barely notice 'em.

I'm not sure, but i think i remember that DCS is only Stereo, not 5.1. But

either way, with TrackIR, that doesn't matter, the sound will follow your

head movement.

For the interested, there is a headtracker solution for headphones available,

the Beyerdynamic Headzone H1, but this gem is beyond expensive (~900€).

Cheers

Mazzic

PS: for Surround conversion from Dolby 5.1 to Dolby Headphone Surround i use

the Astro MixAmp Pro (~120€) on the PS4, very good sound quality. I can locate

enemies in COD:Ghosts with pinpoint accuracy, and it does not cost a fortune like

the Headzone H1.

Beyerdynamics MMX300 coupled with the Beyerdynamics Heazone amp takes it to whole new level for me.

Top notch sound

The mechanical quality of the MMX300 is absolutely beyond consumer

standard. They are very durable, no cheap plastic, which creaks when

you put it on. The T-Bar is completely metal, down to the mounting

bracket of the earpiece.

The only minor downside is maybe, it sits quite tight on your head.

But i use it normally for 2-5 hours with no problems at all.

good luck in finding something suitable

Trust Germans (Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser) and Austrians (AKG. BTW, if you want great closed design with open sound quality, check out K270-271 monitoring series. Open and clear sound from closed design) when you want great headphones or especially headsets (ask broadcast people). ;) They've been standard for decades in the pro audio market (there are couple of Japanese companies like Audiotechnica and Sony, too) and that tells you that quality and long term reliability is way beyond those found on cheap consumer oriented stuff.

Now, gaming market is huge and all above-mentioned companies make "gaming" stuff. It's marketing twist - basically they're recycling their pro tech and expertise.

They come with price tag, but money goes to actual build and sound quality.

You cannot go wrong with any of them, if impedance is low. You don't want high impedance design (say greater than 80 ohms) on low powered consumer outputs.

I'm in love with my Razer Blackshark. I had the opportunity to get one for a good price, for me is the best headset that I had the opportunity to use so far. The Track Clip Pro fits perfectly on it. About the sound quality, is outstanding, I love the sound of the flyby of the Stang with this headset. The microphone also is very good. Also, it's very confortable.

My brother got a Logitech G430 and I think it's not that good as my Blackshark, the sound doesn't have half the quality.

My criteria are precise sound, comfort, quality, good mic, well locatedvolume control, mini jack plugs (for gaming I use SB X-FI soundcard, does my 3d sound in games), price and it should be lightweight. My favorite is the PC360 can wear it daily for hours.

I almost feel naked without them. :D

Thanks OP, I'm starting to look for something now so that I might try the online stuff! So this is great!! ChEeRs

All!

What of cordless headsets? is it worth looking at cordless headsets?

Note: I work in a very loud environments so the stupid Hi Fidelity ones are not much use due to some/future hearing loss.

Ideally I am looking for one which the TrackIR headset pro thingy is incorporated/compatible or one that the pro thing could plug in to for its power requirements? Failing all that can fit over a peeked hat
