When I try to taxi my plane to the runway It just won't turn, I've pushed INSERT to enable the steering. I am trying to use the directional buttons to steer. What am I doing wrong?

Posted (edited)

If by directional buttons, you mean the arrow keys, that will not work. Steering is controlled by the rudder pedals. If you are using the keyboard for rudder then you should be using the X and Z key.

Btw, welcome to the forum!! :)

In standard settings the directional buttons (or arrow keys) control pitch and roll. But the wheel steering controls are equal to yaw control, which is [Z] for left and [X] for steering/yawing right when using QUERTY keyboard (US/UK).

I'm fairly certain you didn't create that screenshot. I mean, it takes like less than 5 minutes to jump into a mission, take the screenshot, crop it and then upload it. If you're too lazy to do it yourself, it sure would be nice if you at least gave credit.

Edit: Thanks for your edit. :)

Dude, I googled image searched this much quicker than that .(try: dcs a10c nose wheel indicator).

plus I'm not really sure how to do a screenshot whilst in the program, else I would have

I didn't mean to step on any toes. Just trying to help a fella out. As I too am new here and too have odd ball questions

If it's your image, a PM would have been a polite way for a reminder vs derailing this thread

Will edit that post to give said credit. As I didn't confide that the image was subject to copyright

My apologies to the OP and to the image owner

Copyright, srsly? God, this must have been one of the most awkward things I've read on ED forums recently.

Credit for the screenshot author? Seriously? Come on...

What if it was any of these?

I sure would understand if their respective creators weren't too happy if someone posted their screenshots in a way that makes it look like said poster was the creator. Or what about this drawing? It's just a bunch of pixels, so is this really any different?

So where would you draw the line between "it's okay to make it look like it's mine" and "should attribute to creator"?

If it's "just" a simple screenshot, then why not "just" take it yourself?

In any case, I think it's always a fair gesture to link to the source of something I didn't create myself, and stuff like the forum's "Quote" function makes this incredibly easy. In fact, it's easier (as in: requires less steps) to quote a post than it is to copy&paste an image from another post, and the quote automatically includes a link to the original version. Is that too much to ask?

There is no copyright for a screenshot for the owner, who made the screenshot! :music_whistling:

The requirement for a copyright is the creative idea itself (and it should be very creative) and the rights of the material.

So, if you write a book, that's very creative. If you paint a picture, that's creative, too. But, seriously, a screenshot is never creative enough to own the copyright of it. And btw: You don't have the rights of the material (the simulation, the graphic engine), so you can't simple have the copyright of it. ;)

A hint to the "photographer" of the scene, would be nice though.

The requirement for a copyright is the creative idea itself (and it should be very creative) and the rights of the material.

First, I didn't introduce the term copyright to the discussion, someone else did.

Second, copyright laws may be different from country to country. But AFAIK in most cases the actual amount of creativity required for a creation to be copyrighted is actually fairly low. In case of photographs and according to German copyright laws, almost all photographs are copyrighted, even if the image seems as generic as, say, a simple meal. Google "Marions Kochbuch" for a series of rather controversial copyright claims.

Third, I think strong copyright enforcement is bad for just about everyone. The great thing about the Internet is its (our) ability to share stuff, which may be as trivial as a screenshot but may be as deep as, say, Wikipedia. Sharing information and sharing content is possibly the one great thing about the age we live in.

Fourth, sharing doesn't mean "taking possession of" or "pass as own work". When embedding images, for example, I think it's simply fair to attribute the work to its creator, even if we're just talking about a simple screenshot, but obviously more so the more creative the work gets, which is why I linked to images with varying degrees of creativity and/or ease of reproduction.

As someone who creates tutorial videos, what would be your reaction if someone reposted your videos under another account without asking for permission and without attributing them to you?

I can easily see that the videos require much more time and finesse to create than it takes for a screenshot. But once again, where do you draw the line?

A hint to the "photographer" of the scene, would be nice though.

See, that's all I'm asking. :D

Sorry for Off-Topic derailment.

OP, was your problem solved?

Others have already pointed out the most probable reasons for your problem. For the sake of clarity, let me just illustrate it once again:
