Not for the rc5 (so manual IDENT), but after that yes, by using the UniversRadio IFF. It will simulate the real IDENT feature.

 

Dart, how are you and Tacno planning on modelling IFF features? Is it just mode 4 you're planning as in UR IFF at the moment or are other modes possible as well (with cockpit switch interaction where available)?

First it will implement what it is in UR currently.

 

In a second time, we will add more features around that. I am currently make a prototype to manage it with the cockpit switches. I would like to simulate a kind of datalink for pilots and controllers, it is in early step, I must solve some technical problems before...

Purely from a curiosity point of view, what's this all written in? C++?

 

Massive thanks for what you're doing for the community. Can't wait for IFF and datalinks; any suggestions yet on what you hope the Datalinks will do?

5% in lua for the "glue" and 95% in C++ :)

 

Too early for the complete view of the datalink, the DCS 1.5 brings me what I need to implement it. The first step (in order to validate the technical part) will be to send the automatic BRAA using it and display into DCS game directly. Then, lots of ideas in my mind (need to be IRL compatible, feasible...) like payload display in LotAtc, current lock target, lon/lat mark, all of this send through datalink ( with relief, radio limitations simulation ) and more...

Once I get the whole thing working, we can transmit in the two way any datas from ATC to/from pilots, and pilots to/from pilots too. :pilotfly:

 

By the way, it takes time to develop and lot of efforts to make, but it is the next step of LotAtc for sure ( not the only one ;) ).

 

Of course, all will be driven by user needs, that is why I begin to talk about that. If LotAtc's users say: "no need" I will not do that :D So, let's me know if it is something that you would like or if you think that is not compatible with the hardcore simulation...

Hi Dart!

 

I have install problem with new client RC5 version.

I tried to install, I got a faliure message: Download failed: File not found(404), when the installer try to download map files (Caucasus, Nevada).

Do you have any solution?

Re data links, I dont know if you ever saw a program called LEAVU for Flaming cliffs. I got some of it to work on 1.2 but never the datalink, to bring AWACS closer in interaction with planes;

 

- It would be interesting in seeing a TAD/HSD type display which synchronised with radar carets like LEAVU

 

- It would be nice to connect the radar caret to the AWACS to make the calls DECLARE for AWACS to assist with IFF

 

- It would be nice to have Bullseye calls connected to the real word via the caret of the radar placed on an HSD so we can give bullseye calls and take bullseye calls

 

- It should be server side configurable to enable and disable so as not to force any change, just to give an option.

 

- There could be nice things to do with the LAZUR GCI or a generic GCI that give steering cues alongside real world GCI for alternative things.

 

Just some ideas, this kind of integration has been on my wishlist since I left BMS.

Yes, datalink is very much needed to really improve the hardcore part of this simulation. Simulating a SADL/Link16 Datalink would be a great addition, especially for AWACS controllers! Really looking forward to this interesting implementation.

Just updated to RC5

DCS.exe is no longer listening the default port or any other port for that matter. So no client connections.

 

dcs.log states that LotATC loads ok but the LotAtc_server.log is no longer generated.

I couldnt get any network connection either :( all ive done is unisntall the rc4s and install the rc5 on both client and server. I did the "enable lotatc" dance, saving each time.
