Scrim Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Basically, had shot down the airliner in the Justice mission, and decided to fly back to base at very low altitude over the water, full afterburner. After a few minutes my right engine caught fire according to the warning system, and went down completely. Up until that point I'd neglected to check the gauges, but is that to be expected solely from flying fast at low altitude with zero battle damage?
ED Team cofcorpse Posted June 5, 2014 ED Team Posted June 5, 2014 Did you save the track? It's hard to say what happened with only text description
Aginor Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Perhaps a bird strike. Such things happen at low altitude. DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
whiteladder Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Perhaps a bird strike. Such things happen at low altitude. Is that modelled in the game?
Fri13 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Is that modelled in the game? Yes. Per mission you can adjust percentage when flying below 200m at what change you have for bird strike. Rarely birds fly higher than that. (Or was the limit 2000m) i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.

Scrim Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 Perhaps a bird strike. Such things happen at low altitude. You know what, that seems very likely now that you mention it. I put the Birds slider on 1000 not long ago, but nothing happened so I forgot about it until you mentioned it.
mytai01 Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 It's either a bird strike or a failure. Both are modeled, but you have to have them selected in the options menu for them to occur. Djent33 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 shot down the airliner in the Justice mission Hehe, I flew supersonic at low level plenty of times

(Or was the limit 2000m) If birds are modeled, can you actually see them flying around, or is it just a random thing that can occur to your plane? GGTharos Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 It's just a random thing. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Fri13 Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 If birds are modeled, can you actually see them flying around, or is it just a random thing that can occur to your plane? I believe at the normal speeds you would not even see them until fire strikes out from plane. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
lxsapper Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 At 100% you don't have 100% chance of catching a bird but whatever percent chance they consider you have of catching one in the real world. At 1000% you have 10x that.
