Basically, had shot down the airliner in the Justice mission, and decided to fly back to base at very low altitude over the water, full afterburner. After a few minutes my right engine caught fire according to the warning system, and went down completely.

Up until that point I'd neglected to check the gauges, but is that to be expected solely from flying fast at low altitude with zero battle damage?

Is that modelled in the game?

Yes. Per mission you can adjust percentage when flying below 200m at what change you have for bird strike. Rarely birds fly higher than that. (Or was the limit 2000m)

Well I never knew that, that`s very interesting. Thanks

Perhaps a bird strike. Such things happen at low altitude.

You know what, that seems very likely now that you mention it. I put the Birds slider on 1000 not long ago, but nothing happened so I forgot about it until you mentioned it.

It's either a bird strike or a failure. Both are modeled, but you have to have them selected in the options menu for them to occur. This is not a bug...it's a bird! :)

If birds are modeled, can you actually see them flying around, or is it just a random thing that can occur to your plane?

I believe at the normal speeds you would not even see them until fire strikes out from plane.

At 100% you don't have 100% chance of catching a bird but whatever percent chance they consider you have of catching one in the real world. At 1000% you have 10x that.
