Witchking Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I think steam takes at least 30% of revenue for games purchased on it's platform. However, games bought from external sources (as long as they are not steamworks enabled.... an agreement which already gives steam a percentage over units sold.) do not contribute to steam revenue. Maybe steam wanted dcs to transform to steamworks, and perhaps ED did not want to make those major changes to DCS at this time. As a result, there may now be two separate versions or two separate activation systems and runtime executables for every release in the future.... one for the dcs version and the other for steam. If thats the reason. Will be keeping all my purchases out of steam as have done so far. :smilewink: :joystick: YouTube :pilotfly: TimeKilla on Flight Sims over at YouTube.
Darkwolf Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Well. On one hand, ED don't really need steam, its distribution is OK. Servers aren't the best but the licence management and purchase system is good. On the other hand, Steam is the largest game hub and was a nice place to showcase ED game. Unsure if good or bad news. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] PC simulator news site. Also....Join the largest DCS community on Facebook :pilotfly:

It is just that modules purchased at EDs e-shop can not be integrated into a Steam installation of DCS in the future - as the serials will not be transferred to Steam anymore. Purchases via Steam are unaffected.
