While I agree that labels are a bad idea for any multiplayer gameplay, the RL argument is not a good one. The human eye can see things far better than what we can see on a computer monitor.

 

From real life piloting experience, it is not easy to spot other airplanes visually, there's even times they're hard to spot when they're less than a mile away with traffic advisory from atc. It just takes practice to scan sections of the sky at a time

I didn't mean to say that it's easy in real life, my point was that it is easier in real life due to thousands of reasons that we can't yet duplicate in a sim. Until the technology is available to offer a 1:1 representation of the real world then we need to find ways to compensate for looking at a 2D display, on a computer monitor, at a lower resolution than the human eye, and with far less colours and shading than we have in the real world.

 

Don't get me wrong, Im not advocating the use of labels, I just think that we need some tools (smart scaling or some other technique?) to allow realistic spotting in game.
