SharpeXB Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 The shutdown checklist lists wheel brakes as an item. I can't seem to find where they are located. Supposed to be on the center front dash. i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5
PFunk1606688187 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Are you talking about a parking brake? The A-10 has none. Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.

Soulres Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 That handle only activates the emergency brake system, which uses R HYD SYS pressure in case of a L HYD SYS failure. It is not a parking brake. Its practiclly a parking brake, i use it so the plane doesnt roll forwordsduring startup and engine test
Soulres Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 No, it is not a parking brake at all. All it does is switch which hydraulic system the brakes use (and disables the anti-skid). It does not hold the brakes. holds the plane down sure acts like a parking brake. try it
Soulres Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I'm sorry, but that is not correct. I'm not sure how else to explain it to you. i dont have to explain it, its what it does. i use it every time i start the A10c and test the engines up to 25% thrust doesnt move the plane, without it it takes 5% thrust
Soulres Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) Ok, if you say so.Yep. The shutdown checklist lists wheel brakes as an item. I can't seem to find where they are located. Supposed to be on the center front dash. Op.Try what works for you,the parking brake works fine for me,or you can hold the brakes the entire process. cheers. Edited July 18, 2014 by Soulres 1
kk0425 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Just some advice for you Soulres, you may want to listen to Noodle on this one.
SharpeXB Posted July 18, 2014 Author Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) Ok thanks. Yes I know the function of the emergency brake. On the real aircraft I think your wheels would be chocked by the ground crew. In the DCS flight manual, p 626 Shutdown Checklist. Item 4 is Front Dash / Wheel Brake Handle / Set Brake I was wondering what that was. PFunk1606688187 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 pwnage I love this guy. And as for that item in the manual's checklist, well I have no idea. Maybe its some item from some very old early list from very early development that included totally superfluous inclusions based on the existence of things you could pull and should reset to normal, and Brake means normal brake operation ie. push the EMER BRAKE handle in. Or its just silly. :clown: Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.
Hansolo Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Thanks for clarifying Noodle. We had an internal discussion a whileback in the squadron and this settles it. Much appreciated  Cheers Hans 132nd Virtual Wing homepage & 132nd Virtual Wing YouTube channel My DCS-BIOS sketches & Cockpit Album
DeJohn Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 If you want to simulate a parking brake, you have to assign this function to a toggle switch. Otherwise you have to hold the toe brakes the entire time.
cichlidfan Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Despite what the DCS manual might say about it, the A-10 does not have a parking brake nor is one modeled in DCS. ...and there lies the problem. NeilWillis Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 i dont have to explain it, its what it does. i use it every time i start the A10c and test the engines up to 25% thrust doesnt move the plane, without it it takes 5% thrust It still doesn't alter reality. If you want to fly the A-10C in the correct manner, then it isn't sensible to use the emergency brake back up as a parking brake. It is not the correct procedure, and it isn't designed to be. To hold the plane stationary during engine run-ups, just hold it on the toe brakes, that's the correct way to do it. In the game, it may have undesired effects, and behave like a parking brake, but it isn't a parking brake, because the A-10C doesn't have a parking brake. If you choose to use it incorrectly, then fine, go ahead. Use the canopy as an airbrake too if you like! However, it isn't designed to be one, even if it might slow the aircraft down if it isn't ripped off by the slipstream. Isn't the principle the same?
kk0425 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I think the problem with Soulres' method is that the emergency brake disables the anti-skid switch, which last I heard is still bugged. You get more braking power with it off than on.
