There was an Aft tank pump that automatically transfered fuel into the forward/main tank, but I can't remember the specifics. Presently on the road with work but I'll check the manual I have when I get home tonight.

I don't hear any sounds in cockpit, not even the radar tones are working.

Isn't that the GAR-8 growl volume and not radar tone? Radar lock is just indicated by the light stopping flashing.

I hear whine sound too.

Last night those happened:

* Fuel needle shows ~10 and whine sound comes out, that's OK.

* I landed and refueled, now needle shows full, but whine sound keeps being heard.

* Took off from runway, I'm in the air. Still I'm hearing that sound.

* Than I pulled throttle to IDLE. When RPM < 40% and generators went OFF, then again pushed throttle forward and (RPM>40%) generators went ONLINE and whine sound gone...

Is this how it is suppose to be?

No. He says:

...once the fuel gauge drops to 10...

I went into the folder with all the F-86 cockpit sounds in it. This sound comes from "TransferPump.wav" so it would seem to be the sound of a fuel transfer pump.

To add to what Fishbike has posted, I have found that the fuel transfer pump (the sound we are hearing) is designed to pull fuel from either the rear tank or the upper front tank, apparently there is a switch that allows you to select what tank you want to drain first (for trimming purposes) but the model we are using may not have that switch at all.

Either way, that is what the sound is.
