Indeed, but you can't move the flight controls without hydraulic power, so the rotors have to be turning....

AlphaOneSix, I can't say for sure about the Hip because I have never flown one, but I have worked along side one on a fire once and I am pretty sure I saw the crew perform a flight control check prior to starting the first engine. I assumed that there was some kind of hydraulic pump running off of the APP. But I believe that you are right about not being able to move the flight controls without hydraulic pressure.

The only hydraulic pumps are on the main gearbox. After shutdown, the hydraulic accumulators do hold pressure for a while (a couple of days?), but only enough for a couple of seconds of moving the controls. Our pilots are conditioned to run the controls out at shutdown so that the accumulators are empty, so the mechanics can see the correct hydraulic fluid level in the reservoir, so we almost never have any pressure in the accumulators until the next startup. I could see where others might leave the accumulators charged between flights and thereby have enough pressure to move the controls for a quick check before starting the engines. This sim, however, seems to assume that when doing a cold start, the accumulators are empty until the hydraulic pumps can get pumping.

That's why whenever I was testing if the animations appeared in DCS Hip, I always did it after engine run, yanking controls as long as the hydro pressure was there.

Haven't tested the latest OB though.

I'm seeing the new main rotor animations (:thumbup::thumbup:) but nothing for the tail rotor. Anyone else?

Same here. That's still an improvement though! :D

The main rotor swashplate is animated, but it's turning off center. They have to check the geometry and axis because it's wobbling.
