deckard Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Hello everyone. I have been playing on-line last night (104 Phoenix server) and after I shot down one plane and went low (450 meters) in MIG29, I spotted a plane (by using EOS) coming toward me at an altitude of 7500 Meters. The range was 30KM (pretty far I suppose). I gained altitude and shot him (R77). Something exploded in front of me. I shot another missile and he was in flames. I used MSI afterburner to record a video and when I played it back frame by frame. I saw that when I shot my R77 missile (his missile was already in the air). My missile hit his missile right in front of my nose! No damage to the aircraft. It seems that my missile hit his missile and kept on flying to kill him and it did ( my second missile did not kill him). I got the points for my kill. Wow LOL. I do not really know what happened (TACVIEW does not record multiplayer sessions). Second example. I was at 2000 meters and I spotted a plane at over 8000meters (SU27) contrailing by using EOR again. I gained the altitude, got behind him and shot him down with R-73 ( 2 missiles), then I shot him with my guns. I got the credit for killing him with my guns. OK, my question is especially for Russian plane drivers. What is the effective use of EOS? I know it does not distinguish between friend/foe and it is better to be behind the plane and if the bandit have afterburners on - it has longer reach. Can anyone teach some tactics please? Some good Russian plane drivers use EOS a lot and I would like to know their experiences. Someone told me to put a bandit on 90 degrees of my nose and keep doing that until I do not have any emissions on my RWS, then get behind him and shoot him down. I seem not to be able to do it (I tried). Also I have been told that if my radar is off and the bandit is on my 90 degrees (F15), he cannot see me until 35KM range. Is this true? Thank you very much :)

A missile fired does not arm itself before it reaches a certain speed, so his missile detonated due to the proximity fuse but yours didnt. Still should have destroyed your missile (and, depending on distance, knocked out your radar as flying through shrapnel must not be that safe...) Second example. I was at 2000 meters and I spotted a plane at over 8000meters (SU27) contrailing by using EOR again. I know it does not distinguish between friend/foe and it is better to be behind the plane and if the bandit have afterburners on - it has longer reach. While tracking someone in EOS, if needed, use your radar to identify friend or foe (IFF). But the effective use is just that, tracking aircraft that is afterburning, or searching an area for close bandits without giving you away with your radar. 1) Someone told me to put a bandit on 90 degrees of my nose 2) keep doing that until I do not have any emissions on my RWS 1 = notching, its a valid maneuver. 2 = bullcr*p I'd say. Being in the notch does not preclude you from receiving his radar emissions. He doesn't see you on his radar, but your RWR can see him. I have been told that if my radar is off and the bandit is on my 90 degrees (F15), he cannot see me until 35KM range. Is this true? The bold part is another bullcr*p. Being in the notch has nothing to do with your radar. The remainder is fairly true, check link above on notching.
WinterH Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Something similar happened me once, but if I recall right, exploding missile did hurt me a bit :) Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V DCS-Dismounts Script
deckard Posted August 30, 2014 Author Posted August 30, 2014 I am trying to upload that video on youtube and give you guys a link, but it takes forever. The video I almost 1 GB (high quality). I might try to upload it late night. Anyone else with EOS tactics? I have seen some great Russian drivers using it very effectively, I just don't know how to myself ...
winchesterdelta1 Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I know some great EOS tactic for F-15 pilots. When you have locked a SU-27/SU-33 or MIG-29 and you know he is in EOS (No radar signal from the bandit) put your engines on Idle and glide in. In most cases he is not able to lock you when you are still more than 8 miles away from him. He has 2 options. He can run or he can turn on his radar and give away his position to other aircraft and buying you some time. But most of the time it's to late within those ranges. This tactic can also be used for ET shots and other IR shots. I noticed you can get very very close flying head on when dispensing some Flares. in 90% of the cases the missile will miss when you counter it with flares and maneuvers. Be sure you have the speed to afford this kind of tactic before you apply it. It's fun to see them struggle. But don't attempt this when they have their radar on. Unless you know they have fired a IR missile you can shortly go idle and dispense flares at the same point. But when coming in from a high alt while they have EOS on, just glide in and get the kill. Go in close, and when you think you are too close, go in closer.
