Hi all,

This problem started yesterday. I have a youtube video showing what is happening to the stick. It seems like something is broken inside. The stick shouldnt be moving/rotate like X52. Is there a fix to this? I have contacted Thrustmaster support since I purchased this in July 2013. Should be 2 year warranty I think in EU.

Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks

I have no idea. Settling to start Elite dangerous and noticed the stick was behaving differently. Can I replace the broken part if Thrustmaster are taking long to send me a replacement?

No, not really. You'll have to determine precisely what the broken part is, then have TM send you that. Easier for them to send you a new one, I'd think. Have they given you a response yet?

i have a 2cm movement also on those axes after 3-4 years of use as many others

on the video i have this but also the same amount on movement on yaw axes!!!

open it up and see what is broken..

my bet is the inside of the gimbal..

here's a video that may help you also

and yes Hempstead is still making teflon send him a pm if that's the problem(which i doubt) is a great guy BTW

Just been on the phone with support. They have forwarded my email I sent em with another video explaining the problem. Hopefully I'll be contacted today with a resolution.

Thanks alot everyone for your replies. Gives me some comfort knowing this issue warrants a replacement. Unfortunate time for this to happen as I was getting back in DCS and starting with Elite.

At least with the cougar, you had a vast space in the stick base to do all kinds of tinkering. I modified my cougar with diffrent kind of spring system, just like the "evenstrain" mod. But that fancy Warthog stick looks like it doesn't have any room to spare in the base.

Happy Flying! :pilotfly:

Will do. It is brand new considering I havent used it alot and also the way I use my peripherals, I treat them kindly.

Sent more information to support for RMA time. Hope I am back in action soon.

That will be one of the two plastic plug/bung type things that hold the two parts of the gimble together, mine also has a little play in it definitely needs re-engineering.

a lot of people have this..

i remember sending thrustmaster an E-MAIL and they say that after a significant amount of time the stick gonna create that play on those axes and i should replace the plastic o-ring inside, however as they said it will not affect the gameplay-(go figure)

i have replace all the plastic parts and the problem is still there:cry:

Update:

I've posted the base of the stick to France. They will look at it and either replace the base or repair it. I am now without a joystick :(

We thank you for your reply.

Indeed, the unit has been received and the technical inspection revealed a critical hardware fault with it.

Since the repair procedure was not feasible the decision to replace the base entirely with a new one was made. The replacement cylindrical base is scheduled to be shipped to you tomorrow morning.

Congrats. Hope it doesn't break on you this time. :P

Hehe, I hope so too, great customer support Thrustmaster. Well pleased to get the new base before the weekend.

Thanks guys.

That's why I consider reviews worthless. No reviewer is competent enough to investigate it and no review is being updated after whole communities are buzzing about issues with a product. And the competent guys, the ones doing the mods, don't do reviews.

As for manufacturers and their 'quality'. This guy said it's a sloppy workmanship

Well, it's only an issue if you combine sloppy workmanship with truly piss-poor engineering. And with that the commercial manufacturers NEVER fail. You paying $500 don't make a difference.

This subject deserves a separate column. I'm surprised there isn't such a column already on e.g. SimHQ. Ah, I forgot you need competent people to do the writeups.

Engineering isn't the problem. This isn't rocket science we're talking about here, it's consumer joysticks. Toys, essentially. It would be easy to use large high-quality ball-bearings, CNC mill gimbal frames out of aluminum and sell the thing for $1,000. Of course, too few would buy it then. Companies like Thrustmaster have to toe the line between sale-ability and profitability. For what it's worth, I think the engineering and production quality of the HOTAS Warthog is already about as good as it gets for the consumer market. Sure, they could use a better grease and take some more time on the production line to apply said grease, but hey, nobody's perfect.
