LcSummers Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Hello all, i know it seems again another thread of "experiences" and we have a topic but this project changed the handling and understanding of the Dora for me. For a long time i was looking for some kind of "cockpit". :pilotfly:It was always a dream for me as my throttle and stick were on my desk and too high. I couldnt get the feeling of flying an airplane. I had my plans and in August i wanted that this little dream comes true. Two weeks ago i finished two sideboards, one for the throttle and one for my stick. It was a new feeling for me but i was not satisfied already. (I am waiting for my new rudder pedals, this will be my last project to complete my cockpit.) Its not very spectacular, only a wooden construction without any paint but it does its job well. Last Sunday i finished my next little project, to have the stick in front of me like in a real ac.:joystick: This changed my flying alot in the Dora. Its much easier for me to take off and land the Dora. With this configuration i really enjoy it. For myself i can say that this project gave me a better feeling and understanding the Dora. Its a 100% success for me and my Dora and for sure all the other planes in the future:D S! 1

I will consider this one day, when I get the necessary space at home :-) I bet it certainly makes a difference from the usual simmer setup, on a desk... Good flying! even if virtual :-) Flight Simulation is the Virtual Materialization of a Dream...
LcSummers Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 Thx for sharing your positive experience! I will consider this one day, when I get the necessary space at home :-) I bet it certainly makes a difference from the usual simmer setup, on a desk... Good flying! even if virtual :-) Hi jcomm, some words: I had the same problem with space at home, thats why i went on to make something out of wood. First i thought to buy a kind of pilot chair, but this was too expensive and TOO LARGE. So thats why i decided to make my "own wodden consoles and flightstick". The chair was nearly 400 € and my wooden construction only 50€. Thats a huge difference. And i am proud of my construction PS: I asked my brother in law for some help on those consoles, the stick was my own construction. S!

9.JG27 DavidRed Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 ^^i went to a local metal store/factory and let them build one.cost me 30euros and took them two days to make. if you can Carlo, then definitely have a look into this investion.its worth it!
LcSummers Posted September 11, 2014 Author Posted September 11, 2014 That's great. Could you post some screenshots? Congratulations for your success and initiative. It requires talent too! Only one screenshot as the rudder "construction is temporary. Meanwhile i fixed the cables too. And the most important to me is, i can dismanmtle it if needed.;)

Hi David, as i wrote i am proud of my idea and its one of the best investments i made (except TM Warthog and my future MFG pedals). I like it as it is, didnt want to dismantle my stick further. For me in this state its perfect. I can open one side of my sideconsole (my idea) and there i have my track ir stuff, headset etc. As space was rare i like it, cause it was my project. And nothing is better then make your project come true.:pilotfly: S!

EDIT: oh btw, you cant go wrong with MFG pedals! Edited September 11, 2014 by 9./JG27 DavidRed

Anatoli-Kagari9 Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Talking of controllers and cockpits, just had to get rid of my Thrustmaster COUGAR HOTAS :-( It had been given to me by a friend, I then ordered new pots, which were installed, but the roll ( X ) axis lasted no more than 6 months :-( Lot's of spikes, and I decided to grab my old, partly non-functional Saitek X52 and am using it back. None of the buttons / switches on the main ( stick ) unit is usable ( they stopped working all at the same time and it's a known problem with this product...), but I really prefer this to having to invest in yet another controller. If I ever get a new one, I may well try to mod this X52 to make it longer :-) Flight Simulation is the Virtual Materialization of a Dream...

EDIT: oh btw, you cant go wrong with MFG pedals! David, i thought very long about avoiding problems with small space. You cant see it on my pix, but there are 2 or 3cms between keyboard and stick. Firstly to reach it without interfering with my stick. I had to calculate the angle of my stick too. This lets me not much space and i think with an extension there would be some problems. The Eurofighter was here my example, it has an similar arrangement, one of the best modern fighters (in my opinion). I had made my best i could with home space, and i am more then 100% content with this solution. You know me and its hard to convince me in this case, but with the MFG i am 100% with your opinion. S! Carlo
9.JG27 DavidRed Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 im glad you are confident with your solution, which looks good btw! i didnt want to convince you, but i just wanted to point out that such an extension is no problem to achieve with the warthog, as it sounded that you just fear to fiddle around with the joystick, maybe breaking something doing so, or losing the warranty, and thats why you didnt do it...

Kiss die Hand! Thanks David for the compliements on my "cockpit". About your statement, it was space and you know i do not live in a town, do not have those opportunities and yes it was bit fear with warranty. Thanks anyway for your info! Servus und babatschi:)
