Alkaline Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Hi, Just as topic. Im on a 8core FX-8320, and i know I can squeeze more performance outta DCS.. X-55 Rhino guide to configure the Mouse Nipple to work as TDC slew! My rig AMD FX-8320 @ 4.4GHz 8GB RAM R9 270x 2GB SSD Win 8.1 Pro
JayPee Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 This is a much discussed issue for about 2 or 3 years now.. The game supports 2 cores, one for audio alone and the other for the rest, so basically it runs on one core. Others and myself have posted our opinions about this multiple times and you'll always end up silenced by ED or a moderator saying it takes too much work to rewrite the code to support multiple cores. 1 i7 4790K: 4.8GHz, 1.328V (manual) MSI GTX 970: 1,504MHz core, 1.250V, 8GHz memory
Alkaline Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 Ok, then ima disable 6/8 cores and OC it to 5GHz ^^ X-55 Rhino guide to configure the Mouse Nipple to work as TDC slew! My rig AMD FX-8320 @ 4.4GHz 8GB RAM R9 270x 2GB SSD Win 8.1 Pro
JayPee Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 How many cores does this game utilize? SkateZilla is prolly gonna answer this, IIRC he has a similar-ish CPU and he knows a thing or two about hardware and how software and hardware effectively work together. If he doesn't, ask him i7 4790K: 4.8GHz, 1.328V (manual) MSI GTX 970: 1,504MHz core, 1.250V, 8GHz memory
Alkaline Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 Im not so bad myself either, hehe. Im going to disable every core except 3th-4th. If I disable all except 2nd core (I cant disable the main core :p ), then I kinda have 1 core, cuz AMD FX shares its modules.. X-55 Rhino guide to configure the Mouse Nipple to work as TDC slew! cichlidfan Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 I suspect that you will lose performance since Windows would still use those other cores for background processes. Peter5on Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Well i just change my fx 8350 to i5 4690k. And now i know when i buy amd that was very bad decision. For games like crisis 3, battlefield 4 or watch dogs, 8 cores are good. But for sim games like DCS or ARMA 3 it is very bad. I mean its unplayable compared to intel. amd fps = 33 (42.ghz stock) amd fps = 37 (4.9 ghz) intel fps = 52 stock speeds I thought that it will be maybe 10 fps diffrence only but the change is ridiculous. So if anybody have amd and trying to play dcs i sugest to sell it as fast as possible.

Peter5on Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Well i was trying that stuff in Arma 3 too, maybe unparking cores can make less stutters in amd fx proc, but fps are the same. So i think that bullshit commands are only placebo. :P Only thing that really worked for me was overclocking.
Alkaline Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 Yea well... I tryed experimenting with disabling cores to get increased OC range per core, but wasnt worth it. Couldnt even get 5.0GHz on 2 cores.. So I just continue with my 8core 4.7GHz And yea. If your cores are parked, then you'll notice alot of stutters and spikes. joey45 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 With EDGE around the corner.... The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
