stray cat Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 The manual does not mention needing the ground crew to connect power supply in the startup. The engine will never start without. 1
Dolphin887 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 You don't need the ground power. Just execute start-up procedure. Power through superb knowledge, training and teamwork. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

ff4life4 Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Manual did not mention it. I have just kept it up. It's weird because I don't hear the APU start up, like how it roars in the A-10. It also doesn't take time to start, just flick the switch and hit the engine start, and she starts
kanami314 Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Manual did not mention it. I have just kept it up. It's weird because I don't hear the APU start up, like how it roars in the A-10. It also doesn't take time to start, just flick the switch and hit the engine start, and she starts well the apu seems to actualy be a jsu, kinda like the f16 and the ground power mostly seems to be for testing elements with out the engine, like the nose cone extention. also the aircraft is fully able to start on battery power. also you might use gpu to turn on most of the subsystems and radios while the engine is running up. ether way, the aircraft is easy enough to work on the ground.
leapingrodent Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Should we flip APU Start switch down, after engine start completed? I don't know for sure but I have been doing and haven't noticed any negative effects for doing so.
Sceptre Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 MiG-21 designed as interceptor and takes less than 60 seconds to go from cold to taxiing, I don't think it would need groundpower..... I have never needed it.... RTX 2070 8GB | 32GB DDR4 2666 RAM | AMD Ryzen 5 3600 4.2Ghz | Asrock X570 | CH Fighterstick/Pro Throttle | TM MFDs | TrackIR 5
Buzzles Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I can't remember where I read this so take it with a pinch of salt, but I seem to recall reading the Mig21's batteries are a bit rubbish (at least, in earlier models), and that while it was entirely possible to start from batteries, you'd only be able to do so about 5/6 times as the current drain would trash the batteries (deep cycling), so it was common to start from ground power to avoid having to replace them. Take that with a pinch of salt though as I've no references. Fancy trying Star Citizen? Click here!
