miaig Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Just curious, is the fuel consumption accurate on P51? It seems the I run out of fuel much faster than I should while on multi-player.
fastfreddie Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Did you switch over to the other fuel tank? There are alot of other factors in fuel consumption like speed, altitude, etc. Never really had a problem with fuel in the P51 online because by the time it was up so the ammo. FW190 on the other hand ....
miaig Posted September 26, 2014 Author Posted September 26, 2014 Yes, I do switch between the tanks but I was wondering if it's realistic or is made like that just to force you to land quicker.
fastfreddie Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Nothing that I know of in DCS is altered to determine gameplay aspects. They try to make as real of a simulator as possible. Mustang carries around 240 gallons of fuel and burn rate varies depending on weight/performance. Average burn is probably in the 60 gph rate and close to twice that in combat conditions. Others here could give you closer to the numbers answer but you could burn all your fuel in about one hour if you tried. Some online mission may also reduce the amount of fuel that was loaded to make it combat effective. Mustang is not a plane meant to be flown on a full tank of gas.
BitMaster Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 WoW, I have tried several times in the past on VA-Server to fuel up the Mustang with all 3 tanks + 2 drop tanks and fly until the engines dead sticks on me. I have never managed to fly that long before the server crashed ( that was with 1.2.8 if I remember right ). You seem to have just the 2 wing tanks half full, no rear tank and no droppies. That I could imagine could cause a problem 30-45min down the mission. Check gauges before taking off !!!! So you know what to expect. Complaining in flight that the tank is empty is a clear checklist failure prior to take off imho :) Bit Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X

Pandacat Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Just a bit off topic here. When do you need to switch tanks from left to right? (when one is half full?) I just find this manual tank switch annoying. Couldn't they make it automatic or drain both tanks at the same time?

At least that's what happened to me on more than one occasion. Seriously though, it's up to you. If you're anal about weight balance, you switch often. If not, just dial out any imbalance with aileron trim. It's not that noticeable anyway. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
