Hi, I would like to get rid of data access latency I get with my WD10EFRX hard drive. Main goal is to have fluid TGP and no lags because HDD head needs to reposition many times with poor results (in DCS).

Capacity from 60GB to 128GB. I know that many of you have expirience and I don't. It's going to be my first SSD.

Secondary goal would be to put my Arch Linux on it. Who knows, maybe Windows from image.

My current mobo is only capable of SATA II so it surely will be capped at transfer rate. Intel H61.

I'm looking for drive which gave you least headaches.

I've been using a Corsair Force series SSD for DCS since 2012. Haven't had a single issue with it.

The Samsung EVO range do well in tests and I've always here positive things about them from RW users.

I've got a pair of 250 GB EVO 840 in RAID 0 and I'm very happy with them.

If you are going to use I it as an OS drive, the bigger the better...

Me too, Corsair Force 3 with no issues so far. I'd never go back to a HDD for my OS or DCS now.

I am planning on getting another though and given the choice now I'd get the Samsung 840 pro.

Kingston HyperX and later Corsair GS3 - all excellent.

But in crowd multi missions or sessions, you may experincence stuttering on performnace and/or latency on texture loading - but I may be wrong, this may not related with SSD, just server issues maybe...

I'm playing online so much that I have no idea about performance in single player missions. :D

Have evo and am happy. Would recommend putting everything onto the ssd, so don't limit yourself tip 128gb. Also, the more space you have, the more the firmware can optimize the data locations for faster speed and longer duration. I bought a 1tb drive for this reason. I only use 200gb on it.

I wrote my post, because that issue may be from DCS or server. You win if you buy SSD in every way. DCS's, operation system's or softwares' loading times will be very very fast.

But I want you not to surprize, if you won't see huuuuge difference between HDD and SDD.

In my opinion, it's worth to buy it.

I've seen some strange issues in MP. For example sudden texture reloads.

I think it will be worth trying.

For now it's EVO 840 or something close.

1 TB is out of scope for me. Now its 128-256 :)

Are you guys saying that DCS will run better/higher FPS if it is on an SSD? I could understand quicker load times, but higher FPS? Right now I have a 60gb Mushkin SSD as my boot and 2 1tb Western Digital Blacks in RAID 0 as data drives. I do not really see how an SSD can improve FPS.

I went ahead with Samsung 840 EVO 120GB.

It was damn good decision to upgrade. Right now I've got Widndows 10 Tech Preview on it.

Over Provisioning is enabled, just to feel more safe. It gives me 100GB partition instead of 111GB.

I've got 68 GB free so maybe in few days I will test DCS. System is way more responsive now, it was expected however with latency provided by SSD in comparsion to HDD.

Just do not forget to update firmware.

I did it before OS install. Samsung Magican is always in background.

Thanks for the tip anyway wink.gif

Bumping

Well, I wasn't expecting this much of improvement. No longer I'm in situation similar to this "Oh you are slewing around in TGP ? Well, let's lag a bit". Much smoother gameplay. CPU next in line. From i3 to i5 I guess.

Can be closed/removed.

There's definitely room for improovement in DCS files structure. It took a while to install. Archives would be faster than thousands of files.
