Vinny002 Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Hi, guys! I found a bug in the Mig-21: the APU sounds is missing in the Mig-21. Thanks! Cheers, Vincent
iFoxRomeo Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Are you referring to the "APU" switch? Fox Spoiler PC Specs: Ryzen 9 5900X, 3080ti, 64GB RAM, Oculus Quest 3
bart Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 If you listen real careful just after the engine starts and it's at idle speed you can hear the APU shut down. I don't think the sound is completely missing. Although I'm not sure if the sounds are still Beta or finished, it's been a while since LN came forward and posted an update for what is needing fixed, what has been fixed in house and will be released soon and what bugs, if any, they are currently working on....... iFoxRomeo Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 If you think you hear a Auxiliary Power Unit shut down at the end of the starting sequence, I have bad news for you: There is no Auxiliary Power Unit installed in the MiG-21Bis. So there is no APU Sound missing. The switch "APU" refers to the engine starting units. Fox Spoiler PC Specs: Ryzen 9 5900X, 3080ti, 64GB RAM, Oculus Quest 3
Vinny002 Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 Hi, iFoxRomeo!! I didn't know that the mig-21bis does not have the APU! How does the engine start unit work and where is it located on the mig-21bis? The label should say ESU instead of APU. Thanks! Cheers, Vincent
112th_Rossi Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 The sounds can't be complete. It's way too quiet at start up.
Art-J Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Hi, iFoxRomeo!! I didn't know that the mig-21bis does not have the APU! How does the engine start unit work and where is it located on the mig-21bis? The label should say ESU instead of APU. Thanks! Cheers, Vincent The engine is started by an ordinary DC starter-generator, type GSR-ST-12000WT, a very popular model used on many Russian engines of a cold war era. It works like every starter-generator in the world - plug a DC battery to it so it will crank up the engine (starter), and then the running engine will spin it to produce electric power (generator). It's mounted in engine's accessory box with all other relevant stuff (AC generator, fuel pumps, hydro pumps, RPM sensors etc.). The term "APU" used in the manual is indeed a bit unfortunate and misleading. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
Vinny002 Posted November 2, 2014 Author Posted November 2, 2014 Hi, Art-j! Yes, the APU in the manual is definitely wrong. The so-called APU switch on the left console of the cockpit is actually a ESU (Engine Start Unit) switch. Cheers, Vincent
159_Archer Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 (edited) Talking of starting-up noises -in this vid at 1:26 it starts making nice, loud whiney noises -is that the engine starting gubbins?
