I would suggest this for DCS. But it depends which aircraft you fly.

It has lots of buttons and hat for sensor slew, rotary for zoom, dual throttle. You need it for more modern planes. It is not very high quality. Pots are bad, not spiking but they loose range with use. But then I got mine used and don't know how much use it had before me.

I would suggest something cheap for starting in DCS, since you will probably buy something more expensive later.

Maybe nothing too cheap - bought a cheap stick a couple of years ago cause I wanted to get into flightsims.

But with this stick it was no fun at all hence I lost my interest in flying.

Got me some decent gear a few months ago and I love it - should have bought the good stuff much earlier :D

I started out with a Logitech Extreme 3D pro while I decided whether or not DCS was for me. I used that for a fair few months while I got into the sim before progressing onto a Saitek X52 Pro.

Once I got more confident and was making more use of the aircrafts systems and began emmersing myself more and more, I found I needed more buttons and hats and just outgrew the Extreme 3D.

I guess it all depends on a number of things really...

If you're a serious simmer (or are planning to become one) then I'd get a decent HOTAS and be done with it. If you're just flying occasionally and not too seriously then try it out with a cheapo joystick like the Extreme 3D pro for a start and see how you get on before throwing large amounts of cash at flight systems. At least it if doesn't work out, you've not spent a fortune where as if you do like DCS and do decide to progress into some serious immersion, then you've not spent a lot so an upgrade to a better HOTAS is still within sight and budget.

The Extreme 3D isn't a bad stick for a cheapy. You'll need to play around with the sensitivies in game a little to find what works best for you but my 3D never let me down. Infact, I had kept mine as a back up until I recently handed it down to a friend of mine that I'm trying to coax into DCS :D :joystick:

AVOID THAT JOYSTICK AT ALL COST!

I started my flight siming career with that joystick and after a few weeks of trying to use it with the A-10C I gave up. You don't have enough buttons to actually be somewhat combat effective, neither are the pots good enough to enjoy formation flying or aerial refuelling.

Being a Saitek product its not even worth mentioning that the rudder axis broke after a few weeks.

The only thing that heap of garbage is good for is getting frustrated.

I was wondering if this joystick setup will work well enough with DCS to play online.

Here is a link to one. I found the same one alot cheaper however that is why I am curious.

Let me know what you think.

I'm pretty sure I have one of those in the attic. not a bad stick but very basic. I've had to take it apart a couple of times to clean the pots. I certainly wouldn't pay $60 for one. Are you in the states?

I have the all black (non-Top Gun version) in the attic, boxed and ready to ship. I tried to sell it a while back but no takers. Depending on whether Thick8, or I, are closer, one of us should be able to hook you up.

Here is a pic of mine (bottom pic, it separates just like the one you linked). Ignore the prices.

Yeah my budget for a joystick is very low at the moment. I've played several sims before so I know they are very key needy. I found joysticks themselves with a ton of buttons but no thrust controller. I was trying to find a combo set joystick and thrust for under $40 Difficult to get used to is fine, i just need one that is capable for combat

Yea i found that same one i linked for $18 that is why i was interested in it. I am in illinois. the lack of buttons is ok since I am pretty good switching from the mouse, to keyboard, to joystick and so on. I just need the important most used features. then i can reach to the keyboard for the less common controls

Wow, I really appreciate that. I am in Illinois, USA. My zip is 62040. How would I determine the shipping? The only estimator I could find was UPS and they ask for a zip code/postal code and the T0B2P0 was invalid on their webpage. They also ask for weight/dimensions

Looks like Purolator should be able to do it for about $25.00 CAD but I would have to pay for it to be shipped.

I don't have a UPS here but I guess what happens is Purolator sends it to a UPS depot just across the boarder and they take it from there but because its out of country I can't do a COD.

Sooooo, if you wanna send $25.00 to my paypal account (dale@hornetinspections.com), I'll send it out to ya.

X52 pro was a HUGE upgrade for me coming from thishttp://www.amazon.com/Mad-Catz-F-L-Y-5-Stick-PC/dp/B001EYU1VO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414918190&sr=8-1&keywords=cyborg+fly+5 stick. Some dont like the X52 but it was a huge difference for me an flying. Was a lil intimadated @ all the xtra buttons since last stick did'nt have half near as many. if ya got $ to throw around better to buy a decent stick vs a WalMart special IMO.

Not enough buttons sure... but do ANY other joysticks at that cheap cost have more buttons?

Where I live all electronics have 1 year instant-exchange-warranty so if an axis broke I'd go have it exchanged in a day until I got on that works.
