Hi

I have the original disc version of BS. I notice in DCS that the icon is only for BS2. I downloaded it anyway and tried my Key and it didn't like it. So how do I install BS1 into DCS?

Thanx

You mean into DCS World? You can't. BS1 and BS2 are two completely independent products. BS1 has never been integrated into DCS World. BS2 is the version with DCS World integration.

They are also independent in terms of license; a BS1 key won't activate BS2 and vice versa. In order to play BS2, you need a new BS2 license, for instance you can get "DCS: Black Shark 2 (download version)" from the E-Shop. If you're not in a hurry, wait for the next Flash Sale or Christmas Sale. BS2 usually gets a 70% discount during such sales.

i also have BS1, seems there was once the ability to upgrade from 1 to black shark 2 but doesnt seem to be available now.

really not going to buy the same product twice just for a few updates.

Unfortunately, that is the only option that you have available if you want to fly the Black Shark in DCS World since the upgrade package has been discontinued.

I would have recommended the full BS2 version in any case.

The upgrade required BS1 to be installed and activated just so that BS2 could be activated. Over the years, there have been countless complaints about this procedure. I think it's better to discontinue the upgrade than offer a product that puts unnecessary constraints on the customers.

And as said before, BS2 will surely see a massive discount during the next sale.

BS2 is not just "the same product" with "a few updates". IIRC the cockpit was completely re-modeled and I can only imagine how much time the integration into DCS World must have taken. ED had originally planned to make BS1 compatible with the other modules free of charge, but it's my understanding that the endeavor turned out to be too expensive.

Anyway, IMO BS2 is fully worth its money even if you already have BS1.

Oh, did I mention? The outside temperature gauge is finally working in BS2, yay! :smartass:

Definitely agree with everything you said, I just did not have time to write all of that. :)
