I've been simming with my X45 now for over 3 years and daddy want's a new toy :p . My first reaction was to look for the TM Cougar but there seems to be way to much modding and money needed before the stick is "perfect", and then there is the problem with bad pots. So on to the CH line of gadgets. These things ain't cheap the Fighterstick USB and Pro Throttle USB will set me back 339 Euro, so I would like the opinion of people who had/have the X45 and the CH stick plus throttle. How do these two HOTAS compare?

Cheers

I can't compare the two, but i can tell you that the move to the CH gear was the best thing i did. But then i was only using a MS FF2 not a hotas.

So far i have the throttle and peddles, and they still work perfectly as when i bought them a year ago.

I have the X52 now and for normal flying this stick is good and cheap compared for what you get. I'm a virtual aerobatic pilot and the X52 isn't good enough anymore for the percision flying i do. The plastic "ring" on the bottem of the stick needs to be greased after almost every flying hour to keep the stick as smooth as it can be, and i'm tired of doing that. I'm planning to buy the HOTAS cougar again (yes i had it before, and also pot problems) but this time with the FSSB R1 mod on it. It will cost like 500 euro in total and yes that is quite alot (and don't forget that you also need to buy a rudder) But I can asure you that if you have the cougar plus fssb mod you will have the best there is and also the longest lasting stick on the market. I don't have any experience with the Fighterstick USB but from what i heared this is a very good stick and i think that if you want more quality than the x52 but the cougar with its fssb mod is a price class too high, it is best to go for the Fighterstick!

Guy's thanks for the reactions. Frazer my wife would kill me if I bought the cougar with the FSSB R1 mod :icon_axe: . I just managed to buy Steel Beasts Pro Pe for a mere $125,- with these words: "but honey this isn't a game it's a SIM" :D So even if the Cougar is the worlds most sexy HOTAS out there it's a no go area. I use my HOTAS for more then just Flight Sims (see the above mentioned SIM) and I read that the Cougar is a Flight sim only stick.

CH PRO Throttle has half range of movement of the Saitek's gear.. (X52's throttle is a lot better, I have both). Fighterstick is precise, and it'll never broke, it works perfectly, better than Saitek and TM, not nice to see as Saitek and TM. I use X52's throttle only, propedals (Fighterstick doesn't have twist rudder) and CH Fighterstick.. it's so precise I can almost hit the runway when I want to land!

I've been let down by other manufacturers of joystick, the last brand almost killed my enjoyment of sims completely. I switch to CH Products USB range and never looked back. My Fighterstick is 2+ yrs old and feels the same as it did the day I took it out of the box, the only thing that has changed is the software and it's been an improvement with every version with new features. CH make their kit to last, they know how to make tough controls because they make aviation and industrial grade controls. Precise, very durable and insanely programmable.

Ruggbutt and Revvin thanks for the info. I think nay I know now I'm going to get the CH gear. The Fighterstick, Pro throttle and even the pedals. I'll have to save a bit of money before I'll be able to buy everything but you'll probably see me post on the Hangar forums in a couple of months asking n00b questions :)
