Greetings everyone, my first post here!

Just got the fantastic-if-yet-unfinished Bf-109 K-4 module and noticed this little hiccup. I have my framerate clamped at 40 FPS in graphics.lua, and I typically get 41-42 FPS in the sim unless there's a lot going on on the ground.

I edited the Fw-190 'furball' mission and changed the player squadron to four 109s. I removed a group of four friendlies and left the 12 Russian P-51s in.

I noticed whenever I have the 109's throttle at idle, it costs 10 to 15 FPS! It happens in cockpit view and also in external view.

Any ideas? Possible bug to iron out?

Peace

LOL I think you might be right. I wondered why my FPS droped so much at landing aproach.:cry:

I'm pretty sure it's a problem with prop planes only, which is probably why the framerate tanks periodically when flying the FW-190 Furball mission. Lots of dogfights, lots of throttles slapping open and closed all the time--lots of framerate 'coffee breaks'. It certainly happens a lot when I fly my BF-109 Furball mission which started life as the FW-190 one, I just changed my group to 109s and changed to air-start so I didn't have to taxi or take off (I have no rudder pedals!) There's still lots of FW-190s and all of the Russian P-51s are still there to fly against.

It might have to do with propeller animations at low speed being a framerate killer. I'll have to check to see if it happens when looking out the back or sides of the cockpit with no prop in view (although it might still happen).

It also seems to eat frames when you view the ground scenery through the propeller disc, it's much less of a problem when looking at the prop through nothing but blue sky. Everything seems to point to a prop animation issue, as the spinning prop disc is a see-through item kind of like smoke effects which are also hard on framerates.

Maybe all this is already well-known by Eagle Dynamics, and it's possible that the EDGE engine (DCS 2.0.0 with DX11) will fix this right up for us--if it ever gets released!

Peace

Hey...

Until last update I didn't encounter with this problem.

I haven't sit in 109's cockpit long time. Last night I made a flight, and -yes- when doing landing approach and set throttle idle, DCS turns into a slideshow!

If I a little push forward DCS runs very smooth.

I can't believe this issue still exists since last year or pop up again... :)

From what I recall since I last had DCS installed, I never had such an experience. I did have the explosion "bug", where when launching missiles / bombs / causing explosions, the frames can drop to one digit, but nothing ever related to prop settings ?

Since I heard DCS runs sounds in a separate thread, might it be something related to your sound settings in the sim / PC / hyperthreading options ?

Just a guess....

I have experienced this severe FPS drop as well. All runs fine until I reduce the throttle and the rpm comes down.

This only happens with the Bf-109. All other prop planes are fine.

It seems to me to be a propeller animation issue because I notice the FPS drop occurs during a slight visual change in the prop disc, but that's just a guess on my part.

Cheers!

Again, try lowering the sound effects ( I guess that's possible in DCS ? ). I was always very convinced that all of these fps drops are in a good part related to sound, running on a separate thread...

All of my sound settings in game are at or below 76%.

I am hoping we can get an official response to this issue.

I only have this FPS drop with the Bf-109, and only when the RPM is low.

I sure don't want to have to change my overall sound settings for one aircraft or issue.

Thanks,

I don't understand how lowering the sound effects could make any difference, the sim still has to process the same information no matter how loud or quiet you hear it. Have I totally misunderstood what you mean?

Not the loudness, but the level of quality :-)

I don't have DSC installed, and I don't recall if one can choose between different levels of sound quality.

were you having troubles with the install?

I see that this issue still exists in DCS World v1.5

No one does fly this module?

I think no body has complain about FPS drop, right?

Many people fly it, but even if still happens in 1.5 IMO you shouldn't notice with a rig like your signature says, so may be some further problem?

I think the main question should be that if there's really a problem in module or not. :)

I noticed same problem when I had GTX560. Now I have 970. FPS drops around 20-30 momentarily when throttle id idle (probably this issue happens during adjusting propeller), and soon FPS goes high.

Ok, that is not big deal for my gfx card, but it's obviously a bug that need to be fixed... :\

On my system, bellow, the frames stay fixed at 60 all of the time, flying any of the quick missions, operating the prop manually or automatically, and throttle from idle to full (WEP).

Been flying Bf109K-4 over a month exclusively with no noticeable problem using mostly the ACG (EU) MP server in both versions of 1.5 . Played some on the DoW MP server also.

VSYNCH is not checked.

My video card is a single GTX 680 with 4GB of GDDR5 memory.

Win7 Pro

i7-2600 3.4GHz throttles up to 3.9 max

16GB RAM

Alienware Aurora R3 desktop, liquid cooled

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(later edit)
Just rechecked this with an airport circuit flight and landing after posting this note. My frame rates did not drop below 70 at throttle idle. Prop was set to auto on landing.
I have a 3-D Alienware AW2310 monitor that goes over 200 FPS at times. The stereoscopic 3-D is turned off. Vsynch was off.
I use NVidia Control Panel.
Wonder what the common denominator to this issue is with the guys affected?
Same here Devrim,
circuits with no drop at all.
I believe one of the main problems with DCS is sound processing.
- If you have Hyperthreading in your MB enables, try disabling it;
- If you own a onbord soundcard, and a Nvidia and have installed the Nvidia sound drivers, please try re-ijnstalling the Nvidia Sound drivers and use ** only ** your onboard sound device and drivers in your Windows install...
Thanks a lot guys.
I'll do what you say JComm. I've been reading HT thing recently. I know it's enabled, and I'll try to disable it tonight.
And about sound drivers.. I need to check them too.
Oh man! I didn't count how much Hyperthreading thing can make difference!
Now there's huge FPS increase not only for propeller issue also in general DCS world. I see over 100 FPS at some places, areas. Unbelievable!
Thank you so much for the tip! :)
