Gloom Demon Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I have created a simple mission with my F-15C flying some 40 km directly behind an Il-76. Unfortunately though, I have been able to get the target on my radar only at around 20 km. Since the Candid is a big aircraft and the F-15Cs radar has a range of 160 km, I would presume, that I should have been able to get a mark on my radar much sooner than that. Could it be, that there some ongoing problem with radar detection in DCSW which I am not aware of? Stuge Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 You sure you're not mixing nm with km? Try setting the fat plane to fly at you instead, see what happens to detection range :) http://www.104thphoenix.com
Gloom Demon Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 Stuge Actually - I'm not sure. I have the global settings set to the metric system, however the F-15C probably uses nm IRL, so it could very well be nm. I'll try to do as You suggested and post back, thanks :-) AMD Ryzen 3600, Biostar Racing B850GT3, AMD Rx 580 8Gb, 16384 DDR4 2900, Hitachi 7K3000 2Tb, Samsung SM961 256Gb SSD, Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X, Samsung S24F350 24'
Gloom Demon Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 PRF is set to default - I thought this mode did a sweep of High and then a sweep of Medium - so the target should be showing up and disappearing - or not? TAW_Blaze Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Or not :) Try MED, should be able to see such a big target from 20nm rear aspect.
SFJackBauer Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 PRF is set to default - I thought this mode did a sweep of High and then a sweep of Medium - so the target should be showing up and disappearing - or not? My understanding (from reading the forum and from experiment) is that the radar antenna sweeps are not, in ILV mode, individually simulated with different PRFs. Instead, the detection ranges from approaching and receding targets are reduced in ILV when compared to the best scenarios in the specific PRFs.
SDsc0rch Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 in other words.. they "average" the detection ranges ?? in that case, it would be better to use high- or med- PRF based on the situation i7-4790K | Asus Sabertooth Z97 MkI | 16Gb DDR3 | EVGA GTX 980 | TM Warthog | MFG Crosswind | Panasonic TC-58AX800U [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Gloom Demon Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 Changing the PRF worked - I wonder whether that is realistic... AMD Ryzen 3600, Biostar Racing B850GT3, AMD Rx 580 8Gb, 16384 DDR4 2900, Hitachi 7K3000 2Tb, Samsung SM961 256Gb SSD, Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X, Samsung S24F350 24'
SDsc0rch Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 i would really really (REALLY) prefer if interleave mode worked as it is supposed to work literally function MED PRF during MPRF sweeps - and HI PRFs during HPRF sweeps ie.. model the radar the way the radar works (as close as possible) the current rendition appears to be a "shortcut" i7-4790K | Asus Sabertooth Z97 MkI | 16Gb DDR3 | EVGA GTX 980 | TM Warthog | MFG Crosswind | Panasonic TC-58AX800U [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
