Force_Feedback Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 What cards are you using, and will it give fps increases for my 9800XT? Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:

Greenies Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 I have a Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition, 256MB GDDR3 With a card like that, do you really need 3-5 FPS more? :D I want to get away, I wanna fly away. Yeah, yeah, yeah! - Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away
anivanov Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 to Taipan - does 850xt that you have supports 3.0 shaders?
Mustang Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 want to know whats good about this 6.4 driver? enable Adaptive AA and look at the FPS.......
Guest IguanaKing Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 What cards are you using, and will it give fps increases for my 9800XT? I doubt it'll help you Force. It seems ATI has abandoned us 9800XT guys since after 5.13. You might see improved frame rates, but the flashing and corrupted PS 2.0 textures you see will ruin any of those gains. Actually, since I got rid of the .net user account the latest Cat's created on my system, I have noticed all kinds of performance gains. I think that mysterious account is required for you to download newer Cat's.

I think I've solved my stutter problem, I just set the memory speed to 266Mhz in the BIOS and although the fps still drops to like 15 after a few wrecks, it doesn't go lower for long periods as it did before. How did you delete that .net account, I took a look with the "User Accounts" screen in the control panel, but it only showed mine, no .net accounts. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
169th Taipan Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 To Anivanov, yes Shader Model-3.0 compliant to enjoy all Shader Model-3.0 effects. http://www.169thpanthers.com.au/
Mustang Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 you sure about that Taipan? my X800XT only goes upto SM2.0 (reason why X1800/1900 were made, that and the added performance).
195th_Moses Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 yup its only up to shader 2.0 the 1000 series brought on PS3.0. btw howdy 169th guys Moses 195th Dambusters Forever Chippy Ho
169th Taipan Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Yes Mustang and Moses you right, i read the wrong Forum - Sorry 850 and 800 support only Shader 2.0b with DirectX® 9.0. http://www.169thpanthers.com.au/
Mustang Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 after alot of testing, i can say for certain that the Adaptive AA qualities of this driver version is sooo much better! this is on an X800 too (had to change the ASTT_NA setting in my registry to get it to work).

Any recommended version of CAT that doesn't exhibit this behaviour? Ta Peter
BuzzU Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I'll have to go against the grain here. I went from the 5.10 drivers to these new 6.14's. I gained nothing in fps, and if anything lost a couple. It's not enough to make me go back to the 5.10's, but I see no big gain with these drivers. I have an X800 XT PE card. Buzz
phantom_fly85 Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I have a 9600 Pro with 5.13 drivers and overclocked with Rage3d. Seems to help smooth out the FPS. I am curious about Shader 3.0, so I ordered last week an Apollo 6800 card. I'll let you know what I find. Never had a Nvida card, so I am looking forward to see if I gain anything.

Say goodbye to AA and AF! Just joking, I guess NVIDIA knows how to handle AA and AF these days. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
phantom_fly85 Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 ATI's drivers were KING a few years ago for sure and NVIDIA made false claims and even disabled AA & AF without the user knowing it was happening. I recall some online review sites claiming that NVIDIA was at the end of it's development. But I think it has changed with the 6000 series cards. I was interested in the 6600 GT, but the vanilla 6800 will beat it in most cases. Both are close in cost right now since AGP is on it's way out.

I sold my 6800 for my present ATI. It was a good move. Buzz
phantom_fly85 Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Not sure about that. I sold my 6800 for my present ATI. It was a good move. Don't tell me that! Well the money saved by not going next-gen is o.k. with me. It will be better than the 9600 Pro I have now. But we'll see for sure. Must remember to test my current setup against my new 6800 card.
Mytos Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I also experienced a moderate increase of 3 to 5 FPS. I'm running a X800XT Platinum. Can't notice any fps increase with a X850Pro updating from 6.3 to 6.4. :( Greetings, Ulrich aka Mytos Lock On Flaming Cliffs Encyclopedia at
