uniform Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Anyone have an Idea? Currently playing the A-10A, but probably translates to all aircraft of FC3. I have a 1920x1200 16:10 monitor. When I put this as display options, the graphics are sharp, but the detail is so far away, I cant even see any ground targets or read the object labels even if I zoom. The HUD Is so small, I need to zoom quite a bit before it could be read. I use the cockpit view. Anyone know of a resolution/ ratio combination that works well for gameplay and does not look so distorted? I don't mind much if I loose too much graphics but... I don't think it matters, but my GPU is Raedon HD6850 1024MB
KeyCat Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 (edited) What size are your monitor and how old are your eyes ;) I prefer the 16:10 format over 16:9 but for some reason they are less common on the market. I recently bought a new monitor and understood that I had to get a large one with not "to high" resolution so I got a 32" running at 2560x1440. Don't know if it's optimal but so far I like it alot. /KC Edited January 22, 2015 by KeyCat
Wrecking Crew Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I have a 1920x1200 16:10 monitor. This ^^^ is what I'm set to as well -- using a fairly large 30" monitor and don't have any problems seeing the text and outside objects. I'm running a GTX 680. WC Visit the Hollo Pointe DCS World server -- an open server with a variety of COOP & H2H missions including Combined Arms. All released missions are available for free download, modification and public hosting, from my Wrecking Crew Projects site.
cichlidfan Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Anything other than the native resolution of the monitor (1920x1200 in your case) will give you a lower quality image. uniform Posted January 23, 2015 Author Posted January 23, 2015 Well my monitor measures 48" 16:10. I have went through about all the display settings, my eyes are starting to get old, but I am not squinting yet lol. the graphics is just too small to even see targets, and smoke markers are barely noticeable. I had a couple settings that brought things in a little closer, but it was too low of quality to make it worth while. I am zooming in too far, that its impractical cant keep the aircraft steady. If I could get it to display like in the training videos, that would be great. Even if the quality was that poor. I could at least see what was going on. IDK if there are some hidden settings somewhere I am not finding or what :wallbash:
King_Hrothgar Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) Hmm, not sure then. On my end, I'm using a completely normal 21" 1920x1080 monitor on more or less max detail (MSAA at 2x, other than that it's max). Things I recommend checking your graphics card settings, head position (in game) and FoV level (aka zoom). For graphics card settings, make sure things like texture quality, image quality and those types of settings are all set to "quality" instead of "performance." This applies to both nvidia and ATI cards. Going with a performance setting effectively down scales the resolution and makes everything very blurry. Your head position in game can also make a big difference. The stock position in both A-10 models has your face squished against the HUD with a broken nose. That's great for reading the HUD, but useless for everything else, including finding targets. I suggest leaning way back in the seat, you should be normally positioned in about the halfway point. If you need to read the HUD, lean forwards, but otherwise stay in a "normal" seated position where you can see your upper instruments at a normal zoom level. You will not be able to see airspeed, altitude or just about anything else on the HUD this way, but the normal instruments should be clear. The only thing on the HUD you should be concerned with seeing at this distance is the fixed gunsight pipper. Going with head position is your FoV. Generally, you want your FoV to be at around 75-80 degrees for general flying and at as low as possible for spotting/tracking targets. If you look around on youtube, most players prefer the fish eye view of 100+ degree FoV. This helps with simulation sickness but distorts the graphics making instruments hard to read. Since DCS doesn't use any sort of scaling system, it also makes all but the closest objects literally vanish from the screen as they are smaller than a single pixel at that point. If you suffer from simulation sickness at normal FoV's, then there is no solution but to tough it out. Edited January 28, 2015 by King_Hrothgar
OB1 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Get a 21:9 monitor allows much wider FOV which intern allows you to zoom more without sacrificing too much of your FOV. On top of that there are multi-monitor solutions you can explore.
Dauntless Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 "how old are your eyes" :megalol: @60, I can relate!!:joystick:
