I was hoping you guys may have a solution for me.

My new SSD has been guaranteed for delivery today so once it goes in I will reinstal windows 7 64bit Ultimate

How without reinstalling every program can I get programs to work ?

Its not laziness on my part but a real crap internet connection, I don't want to redownload DCS for instance as I have 4 seperate instals already.

What to do:helpsmilie:

As an aside anyone know why my ED forums are half Russian and half English?

Your SSD may come with software that will let you clone your old drive onto the ssd and you don't have to worry about the registry. If not there are many free cloning softwares on the net. Not large programmes to download. On a side note. I always do a fresh install of the o/s get rid of any crap that has been lying around.

Windows 7 64 Home Premium, i5 3570K (3.4 @ 4.4GHz), Asus P8Z77-V LX, 16GB dual channel 1600 ram, EVGA Nvidia GTX980ti, 240 GB OCZ SSD, 3 TB Raptor, Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas and Throttle, Saitek Pro Combat Rudder pedals.

Thanks, the trouble with cloning is the free ones only do disk copy and not partition. My current os sits in Q drive which is a partition on the 1TB HDD.

I want a new instal as the current one has been on for 4 years.

I just wanted to save myself the grief of redownloading.

TBH if I can get DCSW and Steam running I dont really need much else

I am afraid I have to agree with the others. Reinstall is a wise choice for so many reasons.

Afaik DCS does not care where or when it was installed. The only stuff it stores in the registry is the activation data and your serial keys. But the former will be useless anyways (after changing the system drive) and the latter is safe in your ED store account, you should be able to simply move the DCS directory (and maybe the Saved Games\DCS directory as backup) to a different location/hard drive. Then you will have to activate your modules again and you should be ready to go ... err, fly.

But just to make it more clear: it would be wise to deactivate all your modules before you install the OS to the new disk - so that you will not lose an activation later when you start DCS from the fresh windows.

This way you won't lose anything. If it works, then all is fine. If it doesn't ... well, then reinstall DCS.

Yeah thx chums:)

The thing missing was MS visual 12 or whatever its name is. I had to reactivate all the modules, no blooming record or keys for my F86 or P-51 but I prevailed:thumbup:

I have discovered that my game now loads fastest from the stripped RAID drive as opposed to either SSD:huh:

Have always saved the install files to a flash drive, plus all other important files, drivers for Stick, profiles important info I've collected over the yrs that was useful to setup. In past it used too take me 2-3 days to download just the install files on non high speed internet so I feel your pain.

Get yourself a USB stick and go to http://www.sarducd.it

download the tool, read the F... Manual and put one or more of the Cloning tools on it, they do more than just copy drives but also granular, partitions and can also ACTIVATE a partition to mark it bootable.

For sure, de-activate all dcs modules before you do so !!!!

while you are at it, you might wanna put win7 on the stick too, in case you need to reinstall Win7 at some point, some Antivirus tools and a general Linux for troubleshooting. That's what I carry around in my pocket at most times.

A question if I may. I'm curious where did you get that idea from. Can you recall?

Importing select registry keys or even branches specific to one isolated app is possible but merging two copies of entire windows registry. It would result in a ball of fire :)
