It's a busy week and my psu is dead. It was a 650W seasonic, had good tech reviews, but that doesn't matter now. I just want a replacement quickly and don't have time to read up.

I will probably never run more than one gpu, so I am more interested in quality and reliability than watts.

Thanks!

Corsair, and get the best you can afford. I've been living on an island for 4 years and mine survived multiple poeer outages.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

I understand that the Seasonics are considered among the best.

Except mine?:music_whistling:

Thanks for the recommendations.

I have had good luck with Fatality 750s...

(as for your power supply, it may have been a good one but they don't last forever... And the closer to the sustained rating you run all the time, the faster you will wear one out.. Better to buy one with a bit of room rather than pinch pennies and get just enough PS)

Hence my recommendation..

If you want to price comparable PSU's, make sure you look for 80PLUS BRONZE or better... Bronze would be the least I would go.. If rated 80 plus bronze you should be good to go.. (Silver is a bit more efficient and turns wastes less voltage putting out less heat.. Gold is better still, but I believe Bronze is the best buy for the money and anything not at least Bronze is not worth buying..)

Cool. My seasonic was 80plus gold rated, and so is the new corsair I picked up today. I'm in luck and it turns out there is a Tiger Direct brick and mortar store just a few miles away from me.

Based on all my research in the past 650W is more than enough for my machine (and only one gpu), but I'll consider going bigger for next build. I hate it when stuff breaks!

Anyway, new PSU is installed and seems to work fine.

read through that.. there are PSU makers out their that outsource product lines to other factories.

Read through those and you'll get an idea of what to get and avoid.

Corsair Ax860i had 2 seasonic platinum boxes that went south on me and the last one managed to take out the MB with it even with the 'protection' circuits ...shame as Seasonic manufacture (ODM) for other (OEM) brands and had epic warranites...

I believe the AX warranty is 7 years though don;t quote me on that!!

the monitoring software and contol you get from the AX860i variant is nice to have and helped me in whether I had enough head room for SLI for GTX980's and OC At 4.7 for a 5930K which it did....

PSU's get more efficient as you approach max load ~90% but then the fan will kick in though I never hear mine anyway...

Remember that GPU is getting more efficient so a SLI 580 rig will consume more power than a gtx 980 RIG so the premise of having 1500W PSU etc is moot IMHO

ax860i ...monitoring...plenty of power....V. quiet....no high pitched Choke whine(google it!!)....hybrind fan mode...modular cabling with software controlled Power rail apportionment for G cards... (useful during OC and protection)....

have fun
