MrW00kie Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Hey guys, I want to use facetrackNoIR with DCS World A-10c and I tryed to follow all the tutorials that are out there, but it just does not work for me. With some settings my webcam does not turn on at all and with others the programm is tracking but in game it is not working. I hope someone can help me and may give a small tutorial to me. Thanks in advance.
2sonmike Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 I can't be of much help, but if I were you I'd ditch facetrcknoir and try Stanislaws Opentrack program. You can download it here https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack/releases Download the release candidate, unzip to a folder you created, create a short cut to the .exe (octopus icon)file, and give it a whirl. And there are also YouTube videos to help. At least he still supports his work. Hope that helps a bit.
MrW00kie Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 Mh I dont know how to set it up correctly but I cant get it to track my face. On youtube and google I found tutorials that work with some equipment I do not have.
ricktoberfest Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 There's a download you need on the facetracknoir site for eagle dynamics. Then that goes into the filesystem in a head tracker folder. I'm not sure where anymore, but I can look when I'm on the computer next and see. Really though it should be fairly easy to get going. Make sure you're using the right tracking emulator (freetrack) in the options menu of facetracknoir
2sonmike Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 You have to have the headtracker.dll file installed in your dcs\bin folder. You can find it here. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114706 Facetracking is pretty wonky. You can't have any points of light behind you, your face needs to be fairly well lit, and it will still get confused by a lot of head movements. If you can, build, or buy something that works off of IR LED...if I can do it, anyone can! :-) Plenty of good tutorials on building track clips on Google.
PiedDroit Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 For info, I tried the FaceTrackNoIR out of curiosity but after that trackIR was not longer working with DCS (it was only working when starting the game as admin, which I don't usually). Actually, FaceTrackNoIR had modified the registry keys of TrackIR (NPClient Location\Path), putting it's own dll path instead (I suppose, for compatibility purpose for games that support only TrackIR), the admin registry keys were not modified since I installed FaceTrackNoIR as regular user, that's why the TrackIR was working when starting DCS as admin. So, if you try it and afterward your trackIR doesn't work anymore you might want to check the registry.
MrW00kie Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 Thank you very much I got it to work with the files 2sonmike gave me. But I also see what you mean by facetracking is wonky :D, so thanks for the tip I will look into building something with IR LEDs.
Knowlynn Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I run FTNIR with a 3 point hat and it works great. I think some people have been able to get it working with face tracking. You need even lighting and have your curves set so you don't have to move your head to much. I've been looking into this new technology coming out of the elite and dangerous community. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=15316 It costs less then 10$. Uses a gyro like in a smart phone. If the software is ok then it looks like it could be the future. Extranajero Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I have one beef with FacetrackNoIr and that is the amount of CPU cycles it uses to re-acquire the users face if it loses track. But then I had a very low spec PC when I tested it... --------------------------------------------------------- PC specs:- Intel 386DX, 2mb memory, onboard graphics, 14" 640x480 monitor Modules owned:- Bachem Natter, Cessna 150, Project Pluto, Sopwith Snipe

They only give you X,Y, and Z axis, but I have a switch on my HOTAS dedicated to zoom. EDtracker's software works fine, and it's compatible with Opentrack also for fine tuning curves. The other good thing about it is, it doesn't cost you any FPS in game.
infernus1986 Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I would also recommend using Opentrack the filtering is much better and it has the face tracking plugin from FTnoIR https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack/releases/download/opentrack-2.3-rc9/opentrack-windows-2.3-rc9.zip FX-8320 8Gb R9-280 X-55 Opentrack [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
MrW00kie Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 I did not try the thing with the LEDs jet but I got Opentrack to track my face and it is working way better, it is not losing my face at all and it is tracking it very well. BUT now it is not working with DCS anymore so maybe someone can help me setting it up :/? Maybe I will figure it out myself but I am not the brightest :D
Commander Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I'm using Opentrack and an old smartphone as gyro strapped to my headset... works like a charm ;)

Make sure that headtracking is bound in DCS via the Axis Commands tab in Controls for the aircraft you are using. FX-8320 8Gb R9-280 X-55 Opentrack [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
2sonmike Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Try running them both as administrator. The developer of Opentrack says the best way is to have Opentrack in a folder on your OS drive(C:\Opentrack). There's also that whole other thing of having facetrcknoir in your registry. Before I got fed up with it I did my best to get rid of anything related to facetracknoir on my PC, including all the axes commands in DCS and start over with Opentrack. There's probably an easier way, but that's the way I did it. Also, I found that if you just, one protocol (trackIR), things runs better.
MrW00kie Posted February 9, 2015 Author Posted February 9, 2015 Thank you all for the help !!! The facetrackers are working now, its a bit wonkie and i might look into an other system to track my facemovemend. But thanks anyways, you guys were a great help.
