Ian_cf-18 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Tflash, Very fun mission! You have to take off rapidly in the SU-25 otherwise the artillery takes out your entire flight in about 30 seconds! It's interesting to see how they prioritize the targets, as part of the units will engage your planes on the ground while the rest will engage the ships... I have asked this before but couldn't get an answer: Do you guys know the range of the different artillery units available in the game? This would be helpful in creating challenging missions.
christopher m Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 BS Shepski, Yes, the FARP air bases and higher operational capibilities of the fighting ground vehicles sounds very exciting. BS is definately going to be groundpounders heaven. Thanks for the info, Regards, [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christopher M
ALDEGA Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 After killing everything I headed out to sea and landed on the Neustrashimy and shut down. You tease ;)

Hello Ian, I saw your question but unfortunately do not now the answer. Maybe the devs? You can try to move the ship convoy somewhat further away, then the Bereg will not be engaging ... your airfield! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SUBS17 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Think about it... if Eagle didn't use any over the horizon logic for artillery and MLRS systems then using only line of sight would make them useless. Using EWR and or AWACS creates a scenario where the batteries would be firing on targets or areas where they have simulated spotters calling in coordinates, be it from air, ground, or sea. It would be more realistic if they modeled a Forward Observer, can the BS pilot now call in Artillery? [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
tflash Posted April 23, 2006 Author Posted April 23, 2006 Not a bad idea, a Ground FAC. Could be a humvee or some truck, or even a little soldier (like Igla). If the program could determine a kind of line of sight or a perimeter of observation reach, you could put it somewhere in the mission editor, and it would then "paint" surrounding ennemy vehicles so that they become targets for the A-10 (diamond markers in HUD). Problem: I think this ground FAC would be immediately engaged by whatever firepower the enemy units have. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SUBS17 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 It has to be spotted to be engaged or detected by radio transmissions. Also the vehicle or soldier must have a radio to do this(if the vehicle doesn't have a radio then it shouldn't be able to. Theres also the fog of war effect where the targets must be in visual range to be engaged by the FAC or FO. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]

In other words it is an entirely different ball game now :) Cheers, - JJ. JJ
Ian_cf-18 Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Brit_Radar_Dude: Thanks for the info. It is very helpful indeed! Alfa: Looking forward to Black Shark... sounds great! Do you guys know if we have any ship-based / land-based surface to surface missiles to engage ground targets? I'll investigate...:book:

Brit_Radar_Dude Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 CF-18 - My pleasure/Mon plaisir. I seem to recall that the ship launched missiles will only target other ships? But you can always use ships cannon for shore bombardment. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....
Shepski Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 In v1.1x crusie missiles can be launched from the Tico to attack ground based targets, both built in map objects and ones you place yourself.
