Hi guys

I would like to build a new rig at the end of the month that would be able to run Edge on High spec.

My budget is around 900€ , what would you recommend for :

Motherboard

Cpu

Memory

SSD

Hard disk

Graphic card

thanks :joystick:

I'd hold off until we HAVE edge to play with. I've heard reports that FPS is much improved over the current engine so you may not need to spend anything!

I tend to go for best motherboard/cpu combo I can afford at the time, then let everything else fall into place around it. Not that you should go cheap on the rest, I just find them easier to upgrade.

Edit: also, what Random said :)

Windows 10 Home, Intel Core i7-9700K @ 4.6GHz, Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 Gaming (8GB VRAM) on 34" LG curved monitor @ 3440x1440, 32GB RAM, TrackIR 3 (with Vector Expansion), Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Combat Pedals, Thrustmaster Cougar MFDs.

Edge could be months away. If you wait, you'll be buying the latest technology at the same price.

[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]WIN 10, i7 10700, 32GB DDR4, RTX 2080 Super, Crucial 1TB SSD, Samsung EVO 850 500GB SSD, TM Warthog with 10cm extension, TIR5, MFG Crosswind Pedals, Wheelstand Pro, LG 40" 4K TV, Razer Black Widow Ultimate KB[/size]

yeah ok thanks....

But I was already waiting since last year for it, I am not really into waiting X months again XD

My actual rig is 5 years old

The question you want to ask yourself is: can your rig run 4k at high detail with no dropped frames.

Do you have a 21:9 aspect ratio monitor with g-sync/freesync at 4k resolution?

You should set that as your goal for EDGE. If you can pull off the above, then you're ready for EDGE.

That is really bad advice.. If you bother to look at the test rigs of the folks testing EDGE, you will see that they are not running super fantastical Cray super computers... EDGE DOES NOT require 4k to run .. That would be severe overkill..

If you don't have useful information for folks please do not respond...

Below is a response I penned a few days ago and have repeated at least 5 times now... This is decent advice for the OP..

Anyway, there is plenty of information that HAS been provided if you look at what has been said and done.

Multi-core is NOT supported... (So pretty much the same rule applies going forward. Buy the fastest MHZ I-5 that you can get your hands on or spend some extra and get the I7 if you do video processing.

Memory is currently something like MIN 6Gig.. So buy 16 and you should be good.. 32 and you are future proof. (I would BUY 16 Gig but have a mainboard that could take 32.)

Current DCS 2.0 testers have stated existing DirectX 11 cards are being used for testing and that multi-GPUs are supported. So considering that BOTH AMD and Nvidia have issues, pick the one that you are the least mad at and buy one (or 2). I still think the Nvidia thing is overblown so I would buy 2 970gtx's...

It isn't that difficult folks if you look at what they HAVE said..

So my fairy tale system based on the above would be:

Core I5 (Fastest I could find)

With 32 MEGS RAM,

2 970GTX video cards in SLI

Windows 7 or Windows 10 64 bit (Depends on when I bought the equipment.)

Closed loop water cooler for ease of build

FATALITY 850 power supply

Plenty of horsepower for whatever you are going to do in the next 2 or 3 years including DCS 2.0...

OK some on that list will see benefits from an I7, but for MY money I would simply buy the best I5 I could get my hands on and save a few dollars for some other parts... (Like an EVO 512GIG SSD which I forgot to mention in my listing.) You DEFINITELY want to go with a good SSD..

So EVO SSD 512GIG and the rest of my recommendation still holds true..

Core I5 (Fastest I could find)

With 32 MEGS RAM, (32MEGS IS overkill so if you need to save cash then 16MEGS should be more than enough but make sure your MB can take 32 in case you need it later)

2 970GTX video cards in SLI (BE ADVISED THAT THIS IS RECOMMENDED FOR EDGE 2.0.. SLI configurations are NOT recommended or supported until EDGE 2.0 comes out. Some folks have made SLI work but others have not... Just an FYI. You are on your own running SLI with the current version)

Windows 7 or Windows 10 64 bit (Depends on when I bought the equipment.)

Closed loop water cooler for ease of build

FATALITY 850 power supply

That is what I would recommend right now...

but i bought an FX6300...

I know an ED staff recommended 4gb of gpu ram for 2.0, and it must be why you recommended it. Unfortunately, the're priced for the Richards that don't live up that broke-ass mountain.

Also, why not crossfire? Just curious.

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

I gave what my choices would be..

I pick Nvidia because they HISTORICALLY have been better with DCS and definitely provide better driver support.. They are also currently the best bang for your buck.

If you like AMD then go with a comparable AMD setup..

I was simply stating what I would recommend..

Your mileage may vary

No, you don't need 4k display, I'm saying that if you want an incredible experience for Edge and you want to buy now, buy something that will last for the next three years at least. The future of gaming is 4k, and even more so at super wide display aspect ratio. Buy well now so you don't have to buy again in a year because of miscalculating the future of gaming.

Since DCS will remain a 1.5 core game (sound only on second) and very few games overall support more than 4 anyways, I'd suggest a top of the line I5. You can see my system's specs in my signature. It runs DCS well currently and from what I've read, should run DCS 2 even better.

In fact, the only thing I'd recommend changing on my system is the GPU. Replace it with a single GTX 970 if you can afford one. The reason I cheaped out on the GTX 770 is all the 970's were on back order for 2+ months when I built it. It runs DCS great right now and v-ram isn't an issue for anything atm, but it will definitely go obsolete faster. I am running at 1080p on a single monitor. v-ram maybe an issue for multi-monitor setups or anything involving 3d.

I will go against some of the other posters and not recommend liquid cooling. It's a hassle and is only useful if going heavy on overclocking. This is not necessary with an I5 4690, stock speeds give 60 fps most of the time and the times it doesn't are one of the main reasons for EDGE. So we can assume those slow downs will be gone.

My current rig was built from an existing machine on a budget of about $750 on newegg. Other than the RAM which I reused from the old machine, that bought me everything you see in my signature + a 256 GB Crucial SSD. I built it around 5 months ago, but I don't think anything has changed in that time hardware wise.
