Rocket75 Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Well, was building a mission, and wanted to have it with the SU33 sitting on the aircraft carrier flight deck, maybe on the lift with the wings folded, engines off. -Instead, no matter what I do, when selecting takeoff from "parking area" or "runway" (which are the only 2 options), it insists on setting me on the runway, with ramp up, engines on, and wheel chocks in place until you go AB. -Even if I brake the "wheel chock lock" it has at the beginning after going full AB, and reset the plane to another spot, when I hit "U" it automatically places me back in the exact same position as I started on the ACC, moving my aircraft and ramps up. -Anybody know if there is something to edit; or a way to get it so I start on the deck, but engines off, and when I hit U it doesn't "auto-place" me?? Also, if I land on the carrier, then realign myself, hit U to raise the wall, then wham I get reset back to orig starting position. I searched but found nothing on the forums. Thanks for any help, would really appreciate it :helpsmilie:  P4-2.4QC-oc'd to 3.2ghz, 2gb Crucial PC6400 DDR2-1066mhz, Evga 8800GTS 640mb, Sata Drives, TIR3Pro
britgliderpilot Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Nope, can't be done. Add your name to the long list of people who want naval aviation to be improved upon in future ED sims . . . . . http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
Ironhand Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 What I've done after landing is to taxi to the takeoff position and align myself in the takeoff position. After practicing a few times, you'll be close enough that you'll barely notice the postion shift when you hit "Reset". Or, if it really bothers you, glance down into the cockpit while hitting "U". When you look up again...voila! You're ready to go. :) Unfortunately, there's no way to taxi into position from the takeoff waypoint. You'll always enter the cockpit in takeoff position #1. Rocket75 Posted April 21, 2006 Author Posted April 21, 2006 Was afraid of that. Tried everything I could think of but kept ending up with the same results. Thanks for the responses guys, and yes, I too wish this was fixed in a future edition by ED. I can't see this being that hard for them to edit, we have the carrier, plane, now we just need a takeoff option of "flight deck" or something that puts the plane at the rear, with engines off. :joystick: Thanks for responses  P4-2.4QC-oc'd to 3.2ghz, 2gb Crucial PC6400 DDR2-1066mhz, Evga 8800GTS 640mb, Sata Drives, TIR3Pro
Shepski Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 It might work if you use the "save state(.sav)" mission file instead of a normal ".mis" file. What you have to do is create a mission that has you on short final to land on the Kuznetsov, land, taxi to where you want to start, and configure the jet how you want it. Then hit "ESC" to quit and when the exit dialog box comes up click on "Save". This willl create a new file with a ".sav" tag. Next is to load the .sav file and you will start in the cockpit where you parked on the deck. The key for this is to delay the timing of all other mission events to start after you have landed and positioned on the deck. This works on the ground and I'm sure it will on the carrier.
Ironhand Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 I had thought of this too but didn't mention it because, last I knew, saved states were broken. Haven't tried again recently, though. That's how we used to set up missions to start from roads in the "good old days". :) I should probably give it a try again myself. Shepski Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 I just tested it on the deck and it works fine... another great use of this feature is to create havoc and damage prior to the player getting in the cockpit and I made a mission... a long time ago... where the player started in front of a hard shelter with a full on airbase attack going on with a lot of damage already having occured as he spooled the engines.
Ironhand Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Good to hear and an excellent idea for mission atmosphere. britgliderpilot Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Good to hear and an excellent idea for mission atmosphere. Rich It certainly is - I'd forgotten about that. Second question - is it possible to use a mission created this way in a campaign, perhaps with one of the campaign-assembling utilities? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
Rocket75 Posted April 22, 2006 Author Posted April 22, 2006 Thanks for helpfull hint, Shepski I second that. Thank you very much. I would still love to see a fix for this, but this will do for now. Just have to make sure not to hit the button for "carrier takeoff" or else it will probably auto-place my plane again. I'd like to see the ramp come up when I hit this key, but have a feeling I will see a star-trek warp to position1. And, it's going to make creating an online mission for 2 or 3 people impossible to do this way. Anyways, thanks for the tip, it is appreciated  :pilotfly: -Rocket P4-2.4QC-oc'd to 3.2ghz, 2gb Crucial PC6400 DDR2-1066mhz, Evga 8800GTS 640mb, Sata Drives, TIR3Pro
X_Man Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Wow - very interesting! I can see LMR missions being randomized from this state too - Right?
Rocket75 Posted April 22, 2006 Author Posted April 22, 2006 Well, tried this last night (doing the .sav), and it did work. Problem is though, you can't record your mission to watch or create a replay from when you load a .sav file, only .mis. -So, I renamed the extension from .sav to .mis hoping it would load on ACC to the position I set. Well, it loaded, but put me in Pos1 instead of the place I had saved it at. So the .sav works, but you can't save the replay or watch it later  . And yes, if you hit "carrier takeoff" it still warps you to postion1 too. Anyways, just thought I'd share what I tested. :joystick: P4-2.4QC-oc'd to 3.2ghz, 2gb Crucial PC6400 DDR2-1066mhz, Evga 8800GTS 640mb, Sata Drives, TIR3Pro
