NotiA10 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 need some advise pls. when i run lockon and look at the utilization of the processor, i always have a utilization of approx. 60% regardless of the FPS i am getting. It doesnt matter whether the game runs 4 or 90 fps the processor is always around 60%. Is there anyway of useing the remaining 40% for the game ? is there something wrong with my system ? I just would like to use all the system resources to run the game better. any help is highly appeciated thx, NotiA10 :pilotfly: (p4 3.2 HT, GTX 7800, 2MB, X52) :pilotfly: NotiA10 CoolerMaster HAF RC-932 - Intel Core i7 950 - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R - Kingston DDR3 6GB - Gigabyte Radeon HD 5870 EF 6 Edition - Western Digital 640GB SATA-III - CoolerMaster 700W - TrackIR Pro 4 - Saitek X52 - Saitek Rudder Pedals - Hotas Warthog
Pilotasso Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I think theres a way to increase the CPU priority of execution of a program, but if anything hapens to LOMAC like an error you will have a hell of a time to terminate it. I will have to leave the answer for someone more knowelegeble in this than me. .
Shaman Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Maybe this 60% lock has something to do with HT? 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
peterj Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 That's normal, strange, but normal. It won't show 100% unless both hyperthreads are fully utilized, if only one hyperthread is used 50% means 100% CPU usage. You can gain a little by turning HT of in some non-parallel applications, but generelly it's not worth it.
Pilotasso Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 ...hmmm just take note that the task manager does descremintate CPU usage for both CPU's. .
NotiA10 Posted April 23, 2006 Author Posted April 23, 2006 i switched of ht with the result that yes 100% cpu usage but the game runs slower than with it on. tried to prioritize lock on aswell, but it is still the same - 40% (+/-) is assigned to the "cpu idle task" no idea thanks anyway for ur help NotiA10 :pilotfly: :pilotfly: NotiA10 CoolerMaster HAF RC-932 - Intel Core i7 950 - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R - Kingston DDR3 6GB - Gigabyte Radeon HD 5870 EF 6 Edition - Western Digital 640GB SATA-III - CoolerMaster 700W - TrackIR Pro 4 - Saitek X52 - Saitek Rudder Pedals - Hotas Warthog
Mustang Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 hehe turn those mirrors off dude, they suck up FPS like crazy :)

chris2802 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Does Lock On really perform better with Hyper Threadin Enabled? I have it disabled atm as it sometimes upsets BF2, but if it helps I might aswell use it! Chris
Cobra360 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Lockon does not support HT or dual core at all, only quantispeed on the old Athlon XP cpus was supported.
Crusty Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I have to run it on one core on my dual, otherwise game has massive stutters, dont think it supports ht or dual core..as Cobra allready said oo err...missus:animals_bunny: ** Anti-Pastie**
NotiA10 Posted June 17, 2006 Author Posted June 17, 2006 FYI finally got to the bottom of the systems problem. My processor was running too hot and slowed down. During full load it was between 74 and 78°C. Problem was simply fixed by installing an additional fan in the case which extracts the hot air. Now max temp is down to 55°C and performance is at least 20% better when playing lock on not to mention benchmark tests. http://users.erols.com/chare/elec.htm wbr, :pilotfly: NotiA10 :pilotfly: NotiA10 CoolerMaster HAF RC-932 - Intel Core i7 950 - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R - Kingston DDR3 6GB - Gigabyte Radeon HD 5870 EF 6 Edition - Western Digital 640GB SATA-III - CoolerMaster 700W - TrackIR Pro 4 - Saitek X52 - Saitek Rudder Pedals - Hotas Warthog
Guest IguanaKing Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Glad you got that sorted out, I haven't seen this thread until now. Yeah, those P4s in the 3.0+ range need an extra case fan, or you have to leave the covers off. I dealt with that about a year ago. Cool thing is...the P4 throttles back, and will even shut down if it gets too hot. AMDs will just run until the smoke rolls. Heh...good thing they're cheap. :D
