hi

i'm playing dcs on a 24" monitor but want to upgrade. there are a few questions that hopfully someone can answer:

1. if i go for a 3 monitor setup is dcs still going to be distorted at the outer (right/left) areas of the screen? that's something i've seen in other games and it is totally putting me off the 3 monitor idea. the only game i am aware of that allows complete adjustment of monitor angles, distance to player, bezel width etc, and therefore eliminating distortion is iracing.

2. if i go for a 3 monitor setup, would anyone recommend mounting the monitors vertically? i could imagine having some more up/down-view might be helpful.

3. what about a large tv? 55" for example (i have one at home, that's why i'm asking) or is that a complete waste of effort? is anyone flying on a large tv screen? i understand that resolution isn't awesome, but personally i'm not seeking top fidelity but rather immersion. my grf settings are med/low anyway as is.

4. or should i consider a bigger monitor instead? is a 27" monitor making much of a difference? that would be very affordable.

thanks so much for any feedback.

cheers

1. No.

2. Some people do prefer vertical orientation.

3. That would be my preference due to item 1 (I am running a 42 inch TV now).

4. 27" is not enough larger to matter, IMHO.

I run DCS on a 32" 1080p TV, which on one hand is actually somewhat small for this application(Though, with any monitor size upgrade, it starts feeling small after a while somehow), but on the other already large enough to experience difficulty reading annunciators or spotting distant enemies because of the low pixel density.

When the 4K standard matures a bit(refresh rates, faster graphics cards with a decent framerate, etc..), a big TV may become a plausible solution.

You are in a position to test whether resolution is an issue for you, as you already have the TV. I'd say hook it up and give it a go.

Or get an ultra wide monitor. I have a the u3415w and its quite amazing for dcs. Also, it's a 1440p

I just bought a 28" 4k Monitor, the screen size, e.g. 28" vs. 24" is not that much more in terms of viewing angle.

Even a large TV will just give you the same viewing angle, or you adjust the angle and suffer distortion on the edges.

The issue I have with large screens in front of your face is the resolution is still 1080p so it has bigger pixels, but not more...

I run DCS on an older 57" rear projection TV and sit about 3-4 feet away and I works well for me as far as immersion. The only thing better IMHO would be a projector or a VR setup.

I run 3, 27" monitors.

Biggest problem is frame rate. On a single monitor and GTX780 I could get 60-75 fps no problem. On 3 monitors its 27-32 FPS on medium settings. The frame rate is easily playable but there are limits on the DCS software.

I currently run dual GTX780's in SLI and although I can't get over 32FPS the usage is only around 60-70 percent. My CPU is overclocked (i4790K) to 4.8Ghz and does not run to its full potential either. At this point I'm waiting for Edge to come out which I assume will maximize my hardware's abilities.

3 screens delivers much better immersion than 1 large screen. Unfortunately you will notice the lack of vertical resolution by just going wider. You could opt for 3 large screen TVs as they are fairly cheap now.

I just got rid of my four screens for 2 (one Helios).

Faster FPS and with Track IR just fine.

Next will be to replace the 24" top screen with a bigger curved display monitor when they come down in price.

3 screens is fun, but with the bezels, the configuration, the FPS I prefer one screen on high settings.
