Grab some F-14s from the boneyard (If not all of them have been shredded). Stick a Raytheon large diameter gimballed AESA on the front of them, give them HMCS, DAS, F-35 style cockpit and avionics as well as a Link-16 suite and maybe if possible, a FBW system with thrust vectoring. Problem solved. Hehe. :D

I stopped reading when I hit this point...

Pierre Sprey, chief designer on the F-16 fighter noted the ruinous consequences of buying stealth aircraft at hundreds of millions of dollars a copy.

"It's a triumph of the black arts of selling an airplane that doesn't work," he said.

"Basically we've ruined American air power."

Its just going to be the same tired old discussion at this point...

You should have kept on reading, some interesting stuff follows.

if by "interesting", you mean "deliberately misleading politicization of the topic to invoke controversy and sell ad space", then yes.

Very interesting.

The USAF trend cycle is back at bombing as it was in the 60's. Less emphasis on high performance dogfighters, light fighters are out of the picture, fortunately there are European alternatives.

The F-22 is the high performance superiority fighter, and the F-35 is the multirole that will provide the fighter mass. Both are extremely advanced.

Also, the US has new advanced destroyers, and the M1A1 has never been destroyed in battle, IIRC.

Not to mention there are probably some very classified technologies also available to the US military.

Seems like they're pretty set to me.

F-22 program now consists only in the maintenance of the surviving fleet as the production run was cut short and cancelled.

If you look at current and future combat aircraft programs youll see they are all focussed away to other roles.

We can all just look away now. The guy is a joke..

Nothing but self serving sour grapes because his plane lost out.. He really needs to just shut up and any and all of his interviews should die by fire...

I know, but they still have almost 190 of arguably the deadliest fighter in the world.

Correction by far the deadliest most capable plane in the world: )

Article is pure crap. The US Military is still by far the most powerful and technologically advanced in the world. And it's western allies are way ahead of anything in the east.

Was cutting the F-22 short a mistake? Absolutely! I know it would be very costly but we did save the tooling. Maybe we'll kick it back into production some day. Till then 190 F-22s capable of handling 6 to 1 odds are just fine...

That's what I'm thinking too.

Except the F-22 won't even be outnumbered once the F-35 is ready.
