Hi Everybody.

I just downloaded DCS World and I am totally hooked...

Ok. I have a few questions.

1: I finally made it through training last night with the SU-25T.

What are the best Air to Air Jets for Air to Air combat??

2: Is the Mig the King?

3: What are all the Anerican Combat Jets?

And Oh. I bought the A-10C because I totally Love Air to Ground!!!

Welcome to DCS, the best Air to Air jets are the Su-27,Su-33,MiG-29 and the F-15. All the US Combat Jets are: A-10,F-15 and the F-86. There is also the P-51D (a unarmed version of the P-51 is free with DCS World).

P.S. Watch some DCS V2 videos if you haven't already.

Depends on if you want high fidelity or not. If yes, get the MiG-21; if no, get flaming cliffs.

Thanks Bro.

What is the fastest jet we have in DCS as of right now?

The Su 25t starts shaking around 900 during training.....

For pure dog fighting, Su-27, for anything beyond guns range, F-15.

Thanks Bro.

Will the F 15 stand up to the Mig 21?

Or is the Mig 21 superior in every way??

Is there a Mig 29 as well as a Mig 21 or am i confused.

When will DCS v2 be released?

Have that improved tons of things?

Should i be running the beta??

The Mig-21 module has much more detailed systems modelling because it is a study level sim.

In terms of air combat performance, the F-15 is superior in pretty much every way. It was designed to make planes like the Mig-21 obsolete, and did a pretty good job of it.

Overall the deadliest plane in DCS right now is the F-15. The Su-27 is also pretty good, but there are design choices and armament limitations that give a well flown F-15 the advantage at the start of the vast majority of engagements.

On the multiplayer servers though, the greatest determinants of air combat success are pilot skill and teamwork.

The FC3 planes are: A-10A, F-15, Su-25, Su-25T, Mig-29, Su-27, Su-33.

The EDGE graphics engine (aka DCS 2.0) will be released whenever Eagle Dynamics is done developing it. That means as fast as they can do it while meeting their quality standards without driving everyone working on it insane from stress.

The engine is distinct from the Modules (platform vs content) so while many good things are supposed to happen roughly when 2.0 comes out it's unlikely that the planes that are dominant in any particular mission role will be displaced in the near future. They may get peer-level competitors at some point though.

Callsign "Auger". It could mean to predict the future or a tool for boring large holes.

I combine the two by predictably boring large holes in the ground with my plane.

The MiG-21 is the best high fidelity aircraft at the moment, but it's a 1970's 3rd gen fighter. The FC3 aircraft are mid level fidelity 4th gen 90's aircraft. If all you care about is performance, you want FC3. If you want complex controls modeling and a fully interactive cockpit, you want the MiG-21.

Note however that DCS is getting more high fidelity fighters in the future (The wait might be a long time though). The F-18 and F-14 are under development and are completely superior to the MiG-21. There is also a chance that the FC3 planes (F-15, MiG-29, Su-27) will be updated to high fidelity. Even better than the 4th gen fighters I mentioned will be the EF-2000, which is under development by 3rd party studio VEAO.

EDIT

As for the fastest plane, that is the F-15 as of now. Top speed is over 1400 knots (2600 km/hr, the same units as the Su-25).

Wow!!! Thanks bro. Hey, I got the thrustmaster t1600, and it seems sufficient, should i buy rudders???

No, you can make do with the twist function on your stick for now. If you have money to spend on accesories, you'll get more bang for your buck with track ir.

Rudder pedals are very immersive but in modern fighters not really needed.

WWII crates rely much more heavily on rudder input. So if you are going to fly alot of WWII or even WWI crates then rudder pedals are a huge bonus.

The pedals vary from 80 bucks to 5000 bucks. But the MFG crosswind and its metal russian counterpart are the best bang for buck considering fidelity and price. But if you would be willing to spend 350 dollars or upwards for 1 rudder axis and 2 brake axiis is debatable.

I for one can't live without my MFG Crosswind anymore. And now that rudder trimming is is removed from the black shark its a dream to fly. Just like any prop based planes.

Yes they are. The moment you get into a high AoA fight aileron input becomes very washed out and rudder becomes the way to roll.

Aren't you supposed to unload before you roll for that reason?

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

What if you're in scissors? So the answer is yes, unless you can't. Iirc the most recent f15 crash was caused by an attempt to unload and reverse, but due to a couple imperfections on the nosecone the aircraft departed (these play a huge role in high aoa stability)

The crash was caused by; Pilot controlled abrupt full aft stick movement, causing extreme AOA (45 cockpit units) during a low speed (151 kts.) downward spiral (45 deg nose down) BFM, which generated sufficient yaw forces for a spin entry and delayed spin recovery beyond the minimum uncontrolled bailout altitude (6000 ft). Imperfections in the nose cone sealant was a contributory factor, by interrupting the airflow. The F15D in question, is more prone to this condition than the F-15C. Pilot ejected safely.

I had forgotten the exact maneuver, yep, it was just a pull that reached the AoA at which nosecone imperfections are a factor.

The AoA was 44 degrees (54 cockpit units). The HuD indication flashes when you hit 45CPU but you can pull more.

The accident is summarized in p4-8 here: http://www.usafe.af.mil/shared/media/document/AFD-150312-012.pdf

I meant to convey that rudder pedals are very much more effective in prop based planes and helo's. For the sake of accuracy.

I didnt mean that rudder input is not needed in modern planes. Only that in modern simulations in my opinion, one can do with rudder on twist or even buttons. Whereas helos and prop based planes really shine with a good set of rudder pedals.
