Guest deeplodokus Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Has anyone compared these alternatives to TrackIR? TrackIR would have been first prize but it is not currently available locally. I could try import it but it is a bit of a hassle so I am trying to figure out if it is worth it to try import it or whether something like FreetrackNoIR with PS3 and possibly homemade IR lights (like delanclip) is just as good? I've been looking for this for ages and can't find any comparison. delanclip/ps3eye with opentrack works fine but not with direct sunlight in the background
GeorgeLKMT Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 delanclip/ps3eye with opentrack works fine but not with direct sunlight in the background Neither does TIR from what I've heard. And it really comes down to used IR filter. Of course, when you stick a floppy disk in your ps3eye, it won't filter any IR coming from the sun, it's a high pass filter. When you use proper band pass filter for the wavelengths you're working with, it should get better. But it's still wiser to try not to let much direct sunlight in your camera FOV and you can also fiddle with exposure, gain and detection threshold. ;) ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■
Starfish Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Here is my review of the Delanclip, if you're interested: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9kY6JU25q8[/ame]
trigen Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) Ive owned TIR5 so i can tell you right away that opentrack/freetrack and the like are just as good and will cost you virtually nothing to make (if you have some basic tools) Think i payed about 100ish nkr for mine, if that. If your not very handy you can grab it for about 300kr with the Ps3 eye (its a must to have, ive tried 30fps cams to and the difference is huge) on Ebay so its a bargain either way compared to the outragous price TIR charges, 1800kr for the cam and a trackclip pro... I got no issues with light unless i put the sun directly in front of my cam and im just using 3 red blue filters in front of my cam for the visible light filter. I had to use another lens with mine as its not possible to get the IR filter out (on this one), just grabbed from an old webcam. Believe you can get lenses without the IR filter on ebay though. Note you can also use the cam with just the leds but there is a big difference in tracking angles and lighting. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OpenTrack-FreeTrack-Camera-IR-LED-Track-Clip-Pro-is-compatible-to-TrackIR-5-BK-/161773673750?hash=item25aa765d16:g:AccAAOSwl9BWLi1z Edited January 28, 2016 by trigen Adding stuff 1080 ti, i7700k 5ghz, 16gb 3600 cl14 ddr4 oc
Aries Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Well this is one of the issue with ft noir. U must must start ft noir first then dcs world The problem of starting the tracking software first or not is not related to the software itself but to the headtracker.dll version you use... Read my posts in this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=107227 At that time I did some tests with different headtracker.dll files, the result was this table: Dunno if today the results are the same or if there are any new headtracker.dll versions... The one I use is migrating with my DCS install for centuries now... :D 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ...the few, the proud, the remaining...
doveman Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I don't think it's necessary to use head tracker.dll though, as FTNoIR and OT can present as a TrackIR device, which DCS supports natively.
